WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic congressman Jamie Raskin labeled former President Donald Trump's hush money case "very serious," warning him Americans will pay attention to whatever is going on in the court and the final result, Mediaite reported.

In an MSNBC interview with Jen Psaki on Sunday, April 14, the Maryland lawmaker criticized Trump supporters for diminishing the importance of the nature of the criminal trial. After a series of the presumptive GOP nominee's failed attempts to delay, the trial will start on April 15.

Weighing in on the historic moment when Trump will become the first former president to go to trial for a criminal case, Raskin said, "Trump's people would like to trivialize and diminish the meaning of this trial, but in fact, it's perfectly emblematic of the others that are out there."

Trump's attorney, Will Scharf, downplayed the significance of the ex-president's first criminal trial, describing it as a "six-week-long media extravaganza." Incidentally, the trial is taking place amid the ex-president's ongoing campaign to secure a second White House term. Similarly, Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt called it a "Biden Trial" and a "Democrat-orchestrated witch hunt," according to HuffPost.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has sued seeking $250 million in damages. Pointing out Trump supporters' tepid stance on the crucial trial, Raskin continued, "They're all about electoral interference and manipulation. They tried it with violence. And we're going to see that in the DC case. They tried it with fraud. We're going to see that in the Georgia case. And here they tried it with payoffs and then cooking the books. Financial manipulation. That's what it's about."

The Democratic lawmaker then gave a reality check to Trump, stating, "It's a very serious case. And I think the Trump people are going to be shocked how tuned-in America is to what's going on here."

The hush money trial will start with jury selection in the Manhattan court, where prosecutors claim Trump falsified business records shortly before the 2016 presidential election to pay adult film actress Stormy Daniels in order to buy her silence about his extramarital affair with her.

The trial, likely to last six weeks, is the first of the four criminal indictments against the former president.

Internet blasts Jamie Raskin

Raskin faced intense social media criticism for warning Trump on the criminal trial.

One user wrote, "Raskin is embarrassing."

"Raskin is tuned in just not sure he’s on the correct frequency with the rest of the planet Nobody cares about stormy dude," another person remarked.

A third user added, "Hyper partisan Raskin is salivating that Dems might be able to get Trump conviction using a corrupt DA who twisted law & made a misdemeanor past the statute of limitations a felony...using laws as nvr meant to be used w a Dem Party activist as judge in all blue city. Sounds fair."

"The democrat witch hunt hyenas can't seem to learn that America sees right through them. It's a nauseating view," a fourth response read. Meanwhile, another wrote, "Raskin is TRASH."

Someone else fumed, "Raskin is a SWAMP STOOGE..." One individual added, "Reskin is delusional with extreme TDS."
