NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden delivered a speech on the care economy at the Union Station in Washington on Tuesday, April 9.

He assured Democratic voters that he would continue to fight Republicans to deliver on his unfulfilled promises during his term in the White House.

Promises made by the President to an audience comprising of enthusiastic caregivers include continuing to push for expanding childcare subsidies, early education, and paid medical leave, reported The New York Times.

Joe Biden promises to make caregiving industry more affordable

According to the report, Biden called for 12 weeks of paid family or medical leave, growing investments in preschool for 4-year-olds, the extension of a child tax credit to aid working families, and investments to provide families access to quality care for their children for $10 per day.

"All this helps families and it grows the economy, grows the economy. And we can afford to do it. We can’t afford not to do it," he said amid applause from the crowd.

The proposals for a care economy were pursued by the Biden administration in the early days of the presidency, with the 2021 Build Back Better plan calling for big investments in preschool and healthcare workers. However, most of the proposals fell through following heated negotiations with some conservative Democrats in the Senate.

With the presidential election fast approaching, Biden is now counting on the supporters of these ideas to carry him through for a second term in office, drawing sharp contrast with his GOP rival Donald Trump.

Biden slammed the Republicans in his speech, accusing them of proposing their own budget that “cuts caregiving programs by a third” and aims to “terminate the Affordable Care Act.”

"As your president, I’m here with a simple message. I give you my word: I have your back," he concluded.

Internet slams Joe Biden's promises

Netizens responding to Biden's speech on X (formerly Twitter) appeared unimpressed with his promises about making caregiving more affordable.

"The economy is collapsing," noted a user.

"Hard pass!" stated another.

"Bidenomics ruined America," wrote a third.

"What took you so long?!" questioned one user, while another asked, "Giving away more of our taxpayer bucks to freeloaders and illegals?"

"Why do you even try," commented a sixth user.
