WASHINGTON, D.C.: President Joe Biden ridiculed his potential presidential adversary, Donald Trump, on Monday, April 8, 2024, by warning Americans not to be "silly" by looking directly at the sun during the solar eclipse, the New York Post reported.

"Folks, enjoy the eclipse, but play it safe, don't be silly," the 81-year-old Commander-in-Chief said in a video message posted on X, wearing a pair of protective glasses on the same White House balcony from which former president Trump viewed a partial solar eclipse in 2017 without the specialized eyewear.

Democrats join in on indirectly mocking Donald Trump

Eye doctors recommend using specialized glasses to watch astronomical events such as a solar eclipse, as they are significantly darker than regular sunglasses.

They warn that even a brief exposure to the sun during an eclipse can lead to long-term vision impairment.

Former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, who ran against the ex-president in 2016, also joined the bandwagon of those who used the solar eclipse to take a jibe at Trump.

She posted a picture of Trump staring up at the sun with a squint, with a caption saying, "Reminder" on X.

President Biden's video was accompanied by the following statement from a White House official which read, “An eclipse is worth marveling at. But don’t be silly, folks – play it safe and wear protective eyewear.”

On Monday, the President will be in Madison, Wisconsin, and Chicago, both of which are located west of the zone of totality.

This geographic area stretches from Texas through western New York, and it is where the moon will entirely obscure the light from the sun.

Recent national and swing-state polls indicate that 77-year-old Trump narrowly leads President Biden, his expected opponent in the upcoming November general election.

This poll comes after the Republicans suffered defeats by extremely narrow margins in critical battleground states four years ago.

Internet joins Biden in mocking Trump over his solar eclipse viewing in 2017

People on X lauded the incumbent President’s efforts and attempts to counter his political adversary Donald Trump ahead of the November general election.

One X user remarked, “Dark Brandon dragging Donald Trump is what I live for."

Another user jokingly said, "Move over Dark Brandon, here comes Solar Eclipse Brandon."

Another person wrote, "It’s amazing anyone listened to Trump after he stared directly at the sun."

One individual asserted, "I prefer Presidents who don't look at eclipses with their naked eye."

Another X user quipped, "Okay, go ahead and make sure you go stare at the Sun today. Just do it to prove Biden is wrong. Send video."

One user tweeted, "Dark Brandon throws shade."
