NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Conservative political commentator Megyn Kelly shared her take on former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker's testimony in the ongoing criminal hush-money trial of former President Donald Trump, on the Tuesday, April 30 episode of her podcast, 'The Megyn Kelly Show'.

Pecker had told the New York court earlier in April that he had been working with Trump and Michael Cohen to "kill" negative stories that people were attempting to sell about the presumptive 2024 GOP nominee when he ran for the White House for the first time back in 2016.

Megyn Kelly's comments on testimony

"The fundamental thing that’s been misunderstood — as far as I can tell by almost everyone in this case — is that it doesn’t matter what was in Trump’s head, or Michael Cohen’s head, or David Pecker’s head in making these payments. The subjective reasoning for making the payment is irrelevant," claimed Kelly on her podcast.

"The only thing the FEC or Justice Department would look at is the nature of the payment," she continued.

"It's very galling to listen to the coverage of this case. I hear all over CNN, Fox News, everyone, getting down to 'David Pecker testified he did it to help Trump win.' Who cares? You can have Trump on the stand saying, 'Yeah, they did it to help me when that was the goal,' and it still wouldn't amount to a Federal Election Campaign Finance violation."

The former Fox News host further pointed out that the judge ruled against allowing Federal Election Commission chair Bradley A. Smith to testify as an expert witness in the ongoing criminal trial.

"He said no, Brad Smith cannot take the stand. It would be improper to have him instruct the jury in the law, among other things. If Brad Smith can't get up there and speak about the Federal Election standards, how do the actual standards like you objectively look at the nature of the payment not the subjective belief in the person's head, how does that get into this courtroom? How does it get in front of the jury so they have the accurate framing of the law?" she expressed.

According to OK! Magazine, Kelly had earlier admitted in an interview that she believed Trump, who is facing 34 counts of falsifying business documents related to a payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels, would be convicted on the charges brought against him.

Internet reacts to Megyn Kelly's comments

Netizens did not side with Megyn Kelly on her take, as the following comments on YouTube demonstrate.

"You’ve missed the mark here, Meg," wrote a viewer.

"Show me you're not a lawyer just by opening your mouth," mocked another.

"Yes, it does matter, Kelly," expressed a third.

"Trump said in October of 2016 that he didn't know either one of those women and of course he was lying. That matters to me," commented a fourth.

"Bribeery," jibed a fifth.
