WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris conceded her defeat in the 2024 presidential race to Donald Trump during a speech at her alma mater, Howard University, thereby officially concluding her groundbreaking campaign.

This came after facing definitive setbacks in several key battleground states that had been won by President Joe Biden four years earlier.

Although many anticipated a somber message from Harris, her remarks instead sparked speculation about a possible presidential run in 2028.

“My heart is full today,” Vice President Kamala Harris said to supporters at the Howard University campus in Washington DC on Wednesday evening, November 6.

“Full of gratitude for the trust you’ve placed in me, full of love for our country, and full of resolve,” she further added.

Thousands of supporters attended Howard University for a concession speech by Democratic National Committee chair, Jaime Harrison. The event was somber, with a DJ playing dance tracks and American flags being handed out. Some attendees appeared to be fighting back tears, as reported by Independent.

“The outcome of this election was not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for, but hear me when I say: the light of America’s promise will always burn bright, and as long as we never give up, and as long as we keep fighting,” Harris addressed the gathered attendees.

The Vice President's speech was met with resounding cheers, particularly when she remarked that her supporters are committed to backing a peaceful transfer of power and respecting the election outcomes.

She went on to say, “A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results. And anyone who seeks the public trust must honor it. We owe loyalty not to a president or a party but to the Constitution of the United States.”

The peaceful transition is what sets the US apart "from monarchy and tyranny," Harris stated in her 12-minute speech, underscored by the campaign anthem 'Freedom' by Beyonce.

Kamala Harris' concession speech sparks 2028 presidential run speculations

While Kamala Harris conceded defeat in the 2024 presidential race, she stated she will “not concede the fight that fueled this campaign". Reiterating her catchphrase, "when we fight, we win", she urged against "despair" and reminded her supporters that the battle frequently "takes a while".

“To the young people who are watching: it is OK to feel sad and disappointed,” she said. “But please know it’s going to be OK.”

Harris' address has ignited speculation that she might be positioning herself for a 2028 run.

An X user wrote, "She either knows something is about to go down or she is going to make a run in 2028."

Another added, "She gave a pretty decent concession speech. I think she thinks that she's going to have a 28 run and it's not gonna happen."

A user remarked, "She's trying to set herself up for a 28 run. Won't happen."
