‘This is historic': Internet weighs in as Trump rakes in record-setting $50.5M at Florida fundraiser
WASHINGTON, DC: At a private fundraiser dinner with billionaires in Florida on Saturday, April 6, the campaign of former president Donald Trump raised $50.5 million, according to the New York Post.
Notably, just months before the November election, the amount generated was more than double the record $25 million at President Biden's star-studded fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall in March. This boosts the GOP's finances.
Trump rakes in record-setting $50.5M at Florida campaign fundraiser
Trump posted on Truth Social, "Biggest night in Fund Raising of ALL TIME!!!Will double up the Biden number of last week at Radio City. People are desperate for change. They want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! DJT."
The stunning amount, according to hedge fund manager John Paulson, who hosted the Inaugural Leadership Dinner at his Palm Beach estate, indicates that Republicans are supporting Trump.
Paulson informed the New York Post in a statement, "Tonight, we raised a historic $50.5 million for the re-election of President Trump. This sold-out event has raised the most in a single political fundraiser in history. This overwhelming support demonstrates the enthusiasm for President Trump and his policies."
Notably, the occasion has been referred to as a 'come-home-to-Trump moment' by people close to Trump. This is the former president's first significant fundraising event following his election to the Republican candidacy.
Moreover, attendees on Saturday paid anything from $250,000 to $814,600 per person for the dinner and reception held at Paulson's $110 million seaside property, which is close to Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort.
Sen Tim Scott of South Carolina, Gov Doug Burgum of North Dakota, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a former adversary of Trump in the GOP, were among the 'special guests'.
Notably, before Saturday, President Biden's elegant March 28 gala at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall had raised $25 million, setting a new record for campaign fundraising.
