WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign issued a statement on Friday, April 5, criticizing the guest list of former President Donald Trump's high-dollar fundraiser in Palm Beach, Florida.

Per The Hill, Trump's fundraising event, hosted by hedge fund founder John Paulson on Saturday, April 6 is aimed at surpassing the 81-year-old incumbent's $26 million fundraiser in New York City last week, with an expected fundraising goal of $33 million.

Biden's campaign team's statement focused on the expected attendees of Trump's fundraiser and criticized the MAGA strongman's fundraising strategy of soliciting support from billionaires who have targeted programs such as Social Security.

What did people working for Joe Biden’s campaign say about Trump’s fundraiser?

Biden campaign senior spokesperson Sarafina Chitika claimed, “If you want to know who Donald Trump will fight for in a second term, just look at who he is having over for dinner Saturday night – tax cheats, scammers, racists, and extremists.”

“Make no mistake, Donald Trump will do the bidding of his billionaires buddies instead of what is best for the American people. He’ll take their checks and cut their taxes, and leave hard-working Americans behind, shipping their jobs overseas, gutting Social Security and Medicare, ripping away health care protections, and banning abortion,” she said.

The Biden campaign referenced John Paulson, who, during a 2018 discussion at a panel hosted by New York University, suggested that Social Security could transition "to defined contribution from defined benefit." Allegedly, Trump has considered him for the position of Treasury Secretary if he wins.

Billionaire businessman and TikTok investor Jeff Yass, who suggested privatizing Social Security accounts in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece in 2019, is one of the people who intends to attend Trump's fundraising event.

Biden's focus on protecting Social Security has increased since Trump stated in a recent CNBC interview that there is "a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting."

Furthermore, the campaign identified Michael Hodges, the founder of a payday lender, as an attendee.

According to The Washington Post, he allegedly informed other payday lenders in 2019 that financially facilitating Trump's 2020 campaign may grant them access to his administration.

It also mentioned that Robert Mercer, the manager of a hedge fund, has claimed that the Civil Rights Act was a mistake, citing The New Yorker and that members of the Mercer family are Trump donors.

John Catsimatidis, who is expected to be at the dinner, was also mentioned by the Biden campaign.

According to Newsweek, Catsimatidis, a billionaire who campaigned for mayor of New York City in 2013, likened former President Barack Obama's proposals to increase taxes on the most wealthy to how "Hitler punished the Jews."

The Biden campaign has also pointed out that Trump’s grassroots fundraising, which was a strength for him in previous campaigns, has slowed down.

On the other hand, they announced that their campaign had its best month of grassroots fundraising in March, setting a new record for small-dollar donations for the fifth consecutive month.
