The officers were called to the incident at 3005 Buckhead along Peachtree Road NE, near the shopping district, around 6:44 pm.

Moreover, according to the Atlanta Police Department, homicide detectives believe that residents of the apartment complex invited individuals into their unit for a drug deal, leading to the shootout.

Atlanta Police Maj Peter Malecki claimed, "This wasn’t like a home invasion type of scenario. We believe that the perpetrators were invited in for that drug exchange. It was some type of drug transaction that was taking place inside the apartment."

Major Scott added, "This is an incident that happened inside a unit. That’s an area that we cannot police. So, we do need common sense to prevail in those situations. And, of course, nothing good comes from drug activity.'

He concluded, "This department does its best to shut down drug operations. So, if anyone has tips or information, that’s why we ask that you send those our way so we can try to prevent incidents like this".

One of the residents of the complex, expressed their astonishment, saying, “I was coming inside, I seen like all the cop cars, fire trucks and everything. It was horrible out here,” said Michael Scott. “You got children, families. It’s bad. I mean, what’s next?” as per WSBT.
