CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Representative Jamie Raskin's speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) was a stark warning to Senator JD Vance, the running mate of Donald Trump.

Raskin reminded Vance about what happened to former vice president Mike Pence during the final days of Trump's administration.

The Maryland lawmaker, who was in charge of the second impeachment of Trump over his alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, cautioned Vance that the ex-president's supporters tried to kill his "predecessor" while storming the Capitol building, Mediaite reported.

Raskin addressed the crowd at the DNC in Chicago, Illinois, on the first day, Monday, August 19, before President Joe Biden's emotional speech and after Hillary Clinton. The congressman focused his speech on how Trump tried to overturn Biden's 2020 election victory and instigated a riot.

"Someone should have told Donald Trump that the president's job under Article II of the Constitution is to take care that the laws are faithfully executed — not that the vice president is executed," Jamie Raskin said.

He also noted how Pence turned into the anti-Trump camp along with over two dozen officials of the Republican administration who denounced Trump, becoming the first vice president in over two centuries to not back the president he once ran a general election with.

Earlier this year, the former vice president declared that he would not endorse the real estate mogul in his bid to return to the White House.

Raskin then said to Vance, "And by the way, JD Vance, do you understand why there was a sudden job opening for running mate on the GOP ticket? They tried to kill your predecessor! They tried to kill him because he would not follow Trump’s plan to destroy and nullify the votes of millions of Americans.”

Pence, who was Trump's running mate pick in 2016, served as vice president for the entire tenure but turned into a rival of the MAGA spearhead's supporters after he certified Biden's 2020 victory. Pro-Trumpers, who violently attacked the Capitol, chanted "Hang Mike Pence" on January 6, 2021.

Before issuing a warning to Vance, who is a staunch defender of Trump, Raskin recalled the horrific moments during the Capitol insurrection where the rioters pounded on House chamber's doors and attacked police officers with baseball bats, steel pipes, and American flags.

Internet split as Jamie Raskin warns JD Vance of dangers of being Donald Trump's running mate

Netizens debated over Jamie Raskin's warning to JD Vance. While some people acknowledged the Mayland Democrat's caution to be true, another group deemed it "nonsense" and slammed him.

"Vance is such an easy target. I can’t believe Trump chose him. Literally the best thing to happen for Kamala Harris," one social media user said.

"It's sad that this is true and not just a joke," another remarked.

One person wrote, "I’m not impressed with Raskin’s silliness. His constant nonsense with James Comer didn’t help the cause of democracy."

"Nobody believes this nonsense . They think the American people are stupid," another added.

"Now….this was a funny but very true statement. There was most definitely a job vacancy. However, some things we should be observant and weary of when interviewing and accepting vacant positions," someone else said.

"They’ll betray JD too - they have 0 morals," one individual commented.

Another said, "More debunked lies. Nonstop propaganda."

"Coming from the party that doesn't care about primaries. They just decide for you," read one remark.
