HOUSTON, TEXAS: A Texas arrest took an extraordinary turn when a handcuffed suspect allegedly found a way out of a moving sheriff’s vehicle by repeatedly kicking at its window until the glass gave way.

Video released by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office was originally recorded on September 3.

The startling video shows accused Keon Dewayne Leonard inside the patrol vehicle before he forces his way through the broken window and gets out while the vehicle is still moving.

Leonard was arrested on September 3 on a warrant alleging assault of a public servant or judge, according to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

Getting him into custody had already required additional restraint.

Leonard is about 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs roughly 260 pounds, prompting deputies to use two sets of handcuffs during the arrest, authorities said.

But once Leonard was placed inside the patrol vehicle, investigators said he managed to bring the restraints around to the front of his body.

That set the stage for the escape attempt captured on video.

The footage shows Leonard appearing to look toward the front of the patrol vehicle before turning his attention to the side window.

He then repeatedly drives his feet into the glass. After several strikes, the window gives way, leaving broken glass inside the vehicle.

Leonard allegedly uses the opening to pull himself out of the patrol vehicle despite it still being in motion.

Photos released after the incident show the extent of the damage, including the shattered window and part of the vehicle door pushed outward.

Deputies forced to use taser

Leonard's freedom lasted only briefly.

Deputies pursued him after he got out of the vehicle and deployed a taser, according to the Sheriff's office.

Deputies then regained control of Leonard and moved him into another patrol vehicle before taking him to the Houston County Jail.

Leonard now faces additional allegations stemming from the incident, including evading arrest, attempting to escape while arrested, and destruction of property.

The original assault warrant remains part of the case.

Media outlets reported that Leonard was being held on bond after his arrest.

The investigation comes as authorities continue to review how Leonard was able to reposition his restraints and break through the patrol vehicle window while deputies were transporting him.
