WASHINGTON, DC: Imagine thinking you're on the right side of history while chasing down a guy who's just trying to take a walk with his three-year-old daughter. That’s exactly what happened to Vice President JD Vance on Saturday, March 8, when a group of pro-Ukraine protesters decided to confront him—while he was out with his toddler.

Tensions have been through the roof lately over the war in Ukraine, especially after last week’s absolute disaster of an Oval Office meeting between President Donald Trump, Vice President Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

What was supposed to be a simple, ceremonial signing of a security agreement turned into a full-blown shouting match. Trump eventually booted Zelensky out of the White House. No deal was signed, and Ukraine is now scrambling to mend ties with the US.

Protesters harass JD Vance while he’s out with his daughter

Some pro-Ukraine protesters are still fuming over this—not at Volodymyr Zelensky for botching the meeting, but at JD Vance.

According to the VP himself, while he was out with his three-year-old daughter Mirabel on Saturday, a group of these protesters decided that was the perfect time to confront him. His little girl was getting scared, so Vance actually stopped to talk rather than just ignoring them.

His hope was that a few minutes of conversation would get them to back off. And to be fair, most of them did leave Mirabel alone. But for the ones who thought harassing a small child was a good look, Vance had one message: “You’re a s**t person.”

Once upon a time, there was an unspoken rule in politics that children were off-limits. But that rule seems to be disappearing fast in today’s hyper-hostile, ultra-divided climate.

Barron Trump was also constantly targeted during his father’s first term despite staying mostly out of the spotlight. And now, it seems like Vance’s young children—seven-year-old Ewan, five-year-old Vivek, and little Mirabel—are the next targets.

JD Vance's fierce response to protesters

Protesting is one thing—that's the beauty of the First Amendment, after all. But JD Vance wasn’t out making policy decisions at that moment—he was just being a doting father. And his three-year-old daughter has nothing to do with America’s Ukraine policy, Whiskey Riff noted.

Vance summed it up best in his full statement.

“Today, while walking my 3-year-old daughter, a group of 'Slava Ukraini' protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared," he recalled.

"I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone. (Nearly all of them agreed.)," he continued.

"It was a mostly respectful conversation, but if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a s**t person," he declared.
