WASHINGTON, DC: On Fox News' 'Sunday Night in America', JD Vance took a firm stance against the notion that Donald Trump is driven by revenge despite the GOP presidential nominee previously suggesting that "sometimes revenge can be justified."

When host Trey Gowdy asked, "Can you assure voters a Trump-Vance justice system would be used as intended and not as a weapon of revenge or warfare as it currently seems to be used?" the GOP VP nominee responded that the former president wasn't a "vengeful" person.

JD Vance reaffirms Donald Trump believes his retribution will be the success of the country

JD Vance said, "Yeah, of course, Trey, you know, I was critical of the president back in 2015 and 2016." Notably, the Ohio senator had labeled Donald Trump "America’s Hitler" during the 2016 election cycle.

He continued, "And he has looked at me as somebody who can contribute meaningfully to the future of the country. So he asked me to be his running mate. This is not a vengeful guy."

"The media lies about Donald Trump more than anybody I've ever seen in public life. He's a good grandfather. He's a good father. He likes the American people and loves this country and this is why he's doing it. As he said repeatedly, his retribution will be the success of the country," asserted Vance.

Subsequently, the Republican vice presidential nominee pointed out how Trump called for "national calm and unity" following the assassination attempt. He promptly said, "If the media lies about Donald Trump were true, he would not have responded to an assassin's bullet as he did."

Donald Trump said 'sometimes revenge can be justified' during Dr Phil interview

Despite JD Vance’s claims, Donald Trump has previously vowed to seek revenge against his political enemies if reelected.

During his Merit+ sit down with Phil McGraw, following his hush money conviction, Trump expressed his desire for "revenge."

At one point in the interview, McGraw noted there's "an addiction to revenge," pointing out that the ex-POTUS has the option to declare, "Enough is enough. Too much is too much. This is a race to the bottom, and it stops here. It stops now."

Trump responded that he was "OK with that," but acknowledged, "Sometimes, I'm sure in certain moments I wouldn't be ... when you go through what I've been through." The 78-year-old admitted that revenge is a "strong word," hinting that they might seek "revenge through success."'

When McGraw pointed out that Trump wouldn't "have time to get even" if reelected for a second term, the GOP presidential nominee remarked, "Revenge does take time, I will say that. And sometimes revenge can be justified, Phil. I have to be honest. Sometimes it can."

Moreover, during his Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, the former president said, "When this election is over, based on what they've done, I would have every right to go after them," when he was asked if he would use the justice system to go after his rivals.

Internet reacts to JD Vance's defense of Donald Trump

Netizens rejected JD Vance's assertion that Donald Trump isn't a "vengeful guy."

One said, "Vance IS lying garbage just like trump," and another remarked, "Wait till vance sees who he blames when he loses."

A person expressed, "Really? So the whole Jan 6th was just a love letter to democracy," while someone else asked, "Do they ever get tired of saying the exact opposite of reality?"

An individual pointed out, "One of his main campaign slogans/themes is literally 'I am your retribution.' He is incontestably vengeful. And Vance is nothing but a lickspittle and a lying fascist who hates women."

"I doubt his last vice presidential pick would say that. But do go on JD, I'm sure you'll love hanging out with him," said another person, referring to former Vice President Mike Pence.
