READING, PENNSYLVANIA: Senator JD Vance held Vice President Kamala Harris responsible for the surge in egg prices during a supermarket visit, which backfired because the price tag behind him told a different story.

The Republican presidential nominee recently visited a supermarket in Reading, Pennsylvania, to emphasize that the grocery price increase was due to Harris' policies. Vance used a carton of eggs to substantiate his claim, as per Raw Story.

Eagle-eyed social media users, however, caught Vance lying because the actual price of a dozen eggs was a dollar less than what Vance claimed.

JD Vance claims egg prices rose from $1.50 a dozen to $4 after Kamala Harris took office

TV producer and filmmaker Morgan J Freeman was among the many who pointed out the Ohio Senator's lie on X (formerly Twitter). "Even in their own damn photo, it shows JD Vance is lying about the price of eggs," she captioned, sharing a screenshot of a post by Donald Trump's campaign.

Vance's sons accompanied him to the supermarket visit, where one handed him a carton of eggs.

"Eggs, when Kamala Harris took office, were short of $1.50 a dozen. Now a dozen eggs will cost you around $4," he claimed, according to CNN's Kit Maher.

"Thanks to Kamala Harris's inflationary policies, Pennsylvania actually has seen some of the worst grocery price increases of the entire nation, and again, it's because she cast a deciding what vote on the inflation explosion act," the Trump running mate added.

Nevertheless, Vance made all the accusations against Harris, standing in front of a price tag that said a dozen eggs cost $2.99.

The Trump-Vance ticket has often blamed Harris for the inflation rate that made grocery items unaffordable for common people.

For instance, in the recent rally in Las Vegas, the GOP presidential nominee claimed the vice president caused "the worst inflation in American history, costing us and the typical family $28,000," as per CBS News.

Under President Joe Biden, the inflation rate hit 9.1% in June 2022, an all-time high monthly rate in four decades. However, the rate fell to 2.5% in August, the lowest in three years.

JD Vance faces mockery for lying about price of eggs during supermarket visit

After being caught on camera lying about the increase in the price of a dozen eggs under Kamala Harris, JD Vance was brutally mocked on social media. Netizens suggested he should check the price tag before proceeding with false claims.

"Wow. You never cease to amaze me by how retarded you are," a user said.

"Hey @JDVance, you might want to remove the price tags next time you lie on camera. Also, you’re holding a pack of 24 eggs. I know math isn’t your strong suit, but that’s two dozen," another remarked.

"Can this man (at this point in spacetime) NOT lie???" a user asked.

"@JDVance chooses the 24 or 30 count eggs LOL," someone else added.

"Just how easy is it to be elected Senator in Ohio," one person quipped.

"Hey @JDVance did you take lessons from Dr. Oz? America's not stupid, we see you're holding up 2 dozen eggs with the price right behind you. My God man," read a response.

"Vance is so damn stupid he can't even lie once without being caught by his own team," an individual joked.

"Blatant lying is the business model of their campaign," another user wrote.

"When will Republican politicians learn that PA grocery stores are where campaigns die?" one user asked.
