WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance has cautioned tech billionaire Elon Musk against launching a third political party, urging him to remain “loyal” to President Donald Trump’s Republican Party to maximize his political influence.

The advice follows reports that Musk has paused, but not ruled out, his plan to form America Party.

JD Vance urges Elon Musk to stay inside GOP

Speaking on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, Vance said Musk would be more effective in shaping US politics by working within the Republican Party rather than attempting to build a new movement.

“My advice to Elon would be to try to fix the Republican Party. Try to push it in your own way. Disagree with me all you want, disagree with the president of the United States, but don’t pretend that you can make a big difference with a third party,” Vance said.

“I think Elon would make a much bigger difference if he stayed loyal to President Trump’s Republican Party, and if he had disagreements, express those disagreements from the inside as opposed to the outside,” he added.

Vance warned that launching a new party would be a “huge mistake” given Musk’s recent alignment with Trump’s agenda. “I do think that it would be a huge mistake for Elon to go forward with a third party, and my argument to him is whether you like it or not, you are now perceived by the far left as on the side of the American right,” he told host Laura Ingraham.

“You believe in law and order, you believe in closed borders, you believe in economic growth and prosperity, you believe in making things in the United States of America. The idea that Elon is ever going to go back to being sort of in the middle, where Democrats and Republicans both like him—that’s just not going to happen,” Vance added.

Supporters call JD Vance’s advice to Elon Musk ‘spot on’

Vance’s remarks urging Musk to reform the GOP from within instead of forming a third party drew widespread praise online.

One user said, “Well said! This is the way. Work with the Republicans. Together we are only stronger and better."

Another wrote, “Use the primary system for reforming the GOP. Fund a Convention of States for a balanced budget amendment. That is the formula Elon should use."

One commented, “A third party will cost infinite money and accomplish nothing but electing Democrats in the end. On the other hand, Elon literally has the current vice president essentially telling him, ‘I care about your opinion and want to work with you on things you care about.'"

Another said, “Good advice. With all due respect, what is there NOT to like about the MAGA agenda? It’s the epitome of exceptionalism… embrace it!"

One wrote, “JD Vance is spot on! Elon, fix the GOP from within, don’t split the vote. Unity wins!"

Another added, “What a strong argument."

One user said, “JD Vance is clearly a peacemaker too."

Another wrote, “He’s spot on! Musk should appreciate all that’s been accomplished thus far, put his tail between his legs, and come back."

Elon Musk pauses America Party plan but keeps options open

Musk is now focusing on Tesla and SpaceX operations, though allies say he has “not officially ruled out” creating the America Party in the future.

The initiative was first announced in July after Musk criticized a domestic policy bill signed by Trump, calling it fiscally irresponsible.

Musk’s America PAC reportedly spent about $300 million in the 2024 elections to support Trump and Republican candidates. However, the Tesla chief split with Trump earlier this year over differences regarding what Musk called the “big, beautiful bill” that expanded domestic spending.

When announcing the America Party, Musk framed it as a response to what he described as systemic waste and corruption in Washington.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk wrote on X.
