ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA: Ohio Senator and GOP Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance has come under fire from his neighbors in Alexandria after the US Secret Service closed and barricaded a park near his home citing security concerns, reported the Daily Beast.

The city announced closing the Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park and restricting an adjacent block to residents only on Sunday, August 25.

The notice announcing the move was shared by the local news website ALXnow, and read, "Beginning Sunday, August 25, and in response to a request from the United States Secret Service (USSS), the Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park, located at 1 & 7 E. Del Ray Ave, will be temporarily closed until further notice."

Neighbors slam JD Vance over Secret Service move

The people of Alexandria who are being affected by the decision have lashed out at Vance, claiming that their rights were being infringed by the announced move.

A person who identified as Thomas Blackwood wrote on the ALXnow website, "I am all for protecting people, but if that park is such a danger, he should probably move. The park belongs to the city and the people of Alexandria, not his protection staff. And to be perfectly honest, a true Republican would not want the government infringing on other people’s rights.”

Another stated that the park belongs to all residents of the city, and they "should be able to freely use the City resources regardless of who lives adjacent to the park. Let the Secret Service figure it out. What happens if some other high level protectee moves in adjacent to some other park?”

Netizens side with Alexandria residents in calling JD Vance out

Netizens reacting to the news on the RawStory website refused to be supportive of the Republican VP candidate and trolled him over the Sectret Service move. The following examples demonstrate their predominant takes.

"If Vance needs that park all to himself and protected by Secret Service, he’s prolly not liked very much in that community that it's a security threat. 🤷🏻‍ Prolly received threats by the childless cat ladies," jibed a person.

"Close central park in NYC. I'm told it is surrounded by the rich and famous and therefore the useless," mocked another.

"I hope his neighbors run him out of town. Vance is a millionaire several times over and can easily move to a more 'secure' location, somewhere his presence isn’t a f**king massive problem for regular people trying to live their lives. Republicans screw things up wherever they go," slammed a third.

"Cage Vance, not the park!" exclaimed a fourth.

"Shutting down the neighborhood playground? So much for family values," quipped a fifth.

"Secret Service would do better by shutting down Vance's house as a danger to the community," chided yet another.
