NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: An awkward live-TV exchange erupted Friday, May 22, on Fox News after co-host Jessica Tarlov directly confronted contributor Tyrus over what appeared to be a veiled insult made during a heated discussion about President Donald Trump, prompting a visibly tense moment on-air.

The exchange unfolded during an episode of 'The Five' as panelists debated Trump’s recent rally speech in New York and growing political tensions surrounding the Republican Party heading into the election cycle.

Tarlov blasts Trump speech, GOP strategy

The conversation began with Tarlov sharply criticizing Trump’s Friday rally appearance in Rockland County, where the president campaigned alongside Rep Mike Lawler.

Tarlov argued that Trump was increasingly disconnected from voter concerns about the economy and inflation.

“Today, telling people you have more money in your pockets when nobody thinks that except the richest Americans at this point,” she said.

She also mocked Trump’s repeated references to cognitive testing during public appearances.

“You know, the weird stuff again about the cognitive tests and how he’s acing things that they give to people who’ve had traumatic brain injuries,” Tarlov remarked.

Tarlov also referenced internal Republican frustrations surrounding stalled legislative priorities and backlash tied to the administration’s Iran policies.

Tyrus makes cryptic ‘B-word’ comment

The segment took an uncomfortable turn when Tarlov used the phrase “there’s a B in the word dumb,” leading Tyrus to interject with a remark that immediately changed the tone of the discussion.

“There’s another word with a B that I would like to add to that,” Tyrus said, before adding, “and it’s in the front.” The comment appeared to catch Tarlov off guard.

“Are you saying that about me, Tyrus?!” she shot back instantly. The moment briefly froze the discussion as Tyrus quickly attempted to clarify what he meant.

“I’m talking about the Democratic Party,” he responded.

The exchange triggered laughter and visible reactions around the panel desk, though the conversation quickly moved forward without further escalation.

While tense exchanges between Tarlov and conservative panelists have become increasingly common on The Five, Friday’s confrontation stood out because of how directly Tarlov addressed the implication behind Tyrus’s remark in real time.

Tarlov, one of the show’s rotating liberal voices, frequently clashes with co-hosts and contributors over Trump, the economy, immigration and culture war issues.

Tyrus, meanwhile, has built a reputation for blunt commentary and combative exchanges during political debates on the program.
