WASHINGTON, DC: Even though numerous top Democratic Party figures such as the Clintons and former president Barack Obama sent supportive messages to President Joe Biden following his announcement to withdraw from the 2024 presidential election, First Lady Jill Biden responded to it by using a simple emoji depicting two small red hearts, OK Magazine reported.

Her offhand reaction elicited mixed responses from social media users, with some finding the 73-year-old's post amusing, while others suggested that she should have expressed her thoughts more openly.

Jill Biden's reaction to Joe Biden announcing exit from 2024 presidential race

Following President Joe Biden's announcement that he was dropping his reelection bid, social media was inundated with comments from trolls who said that Dr Jill Biden was also exiting the race or resigning.

On Sunday, July 21, the 81-year-old President posted an official statement of his on X, formerly Twitter, saying, "I will speak to the National later this week in more detail about my decision. For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected."

"I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me," he added.

Just hours later, the Commander-in-Chief announced that Vice President Kamala Harris, 59, was his top choice to replace him in the upcoming November election, although she has not yet revealed who will be joining her on the ticket as her running mate.

The next day, Harris delivered a speech in which she praised the Democrat statesman's "legacy of accomplishments" and reassured the public that the POTUS, who had contracted COVID-19, was "feeling much better".

Harris shared that she first became acquainted with the President through his late son Beau, who died from cancer in 2015.

"We worked together as attorneys general in our states, and back then, Beau would often tell me stories about his dad. He would talk about the kind of father and the kind of man that Joe Biden is," she mentioned.

"The qualities that Beau revered in his father are the same qualities that I have seen every day in our president, his honesty, his integrity, his commitment to his faith and his family, his big heart and his love, deep love of our country," Harris went on to say.

"And I am a first-hand witness that every day, our President, Joe Biden, fights for the American people, and we are deeply, deeply grateful for his service to our nation," she added.
