WASHINGTON, DC: An anonymous Democrat official criticized President Joe Biden for "playing the victim" as he faced calls to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.

The 81-year-old incumbent answered those calls on Sunday, July 21, by officially ending his reelection campaign and endorsing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Anonymous Democrat official says President Joe Biden feels he was mistreated by the party

While many Democrats have praised Joe Biden for stepping aside and avoiding a potentially legacy-damaging defeat to Donald Trump, others have been critical of his response to the backlash he received after his dismal performance in the June 27 debate.

One Democratic insider claimed that the POTUS often portrays himself as a victim, especially recalling how he was urged by the party and former president Barack Obama not to run against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primaries.

"There's a dynamic here and a psychology that we don't fully understand besides, 'I got screwed in 2016 and I'm not getting screwed a second time,'" stated the anonymous official, as per Politico

They also expressed confusion over Biden's close reliance on his troubled, now-convicted son Hunter Biden, who has become one of his most trusted advisors since the debate debacle.

The official remarked, "For his whole life, he's been trying to protect Hunter, encourage Hunter to step up, encourage Hunter to be the person he wants him to be. Finally, Hunter is doing exactly that. He's stepping up. And who is he protecting? It's not the father protecting the son. It's the son protecting the father."

They continued, "And there's a bonding moment that none of us totally understand. All of a sudden, you have something that the father has wanted his whole life with his son, and he's finally getting it now in a weird way."

According to the official, both of them are engaging in a "victimhood" narrative, with Biden feeling "mistreated under [Barack] Obama."

They claimed, "It's insane. He wasn't mistreated. But he conjures this up in his head, and once it's there, it's very hard to get out. He's always played this victim role, and sometimes it's true. It's just not true in this instance."

Prominent Democrats defend Joe Biden as he drops out of 2024 race

Nevertheless, some prominent Democrats agree that Joe Biden has been mistreated.

Sen John Fetterman, a staunch Biden defender, criticized those who pushed the president to quit, pointing out that he was pushed out before convicted New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post, he wrote, "People pushed out an honorable man, loving father, and a great president before an absolute sleazeball like Menendez. Congratulations," Fetterman said.

Rep Jasmine Crockett slammed those who wanted him out of the race. She wrote, "I hope the geniuses that pushed the most consequential President of our lifetime out have a plan."

The congresswoman added, "WHO in the hell couldn’t sell the MF Accomplishments & win over a 34-time convicted Felon who isn’t even allowed to operate businesses in the state of NY (and therefore should automatically be disallowed from say running the country) & his ENTIRE team IS project 2025?! Joe wasn’t the problem… dems were."

Crockett immediately endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed Biden, but Fetterman has yet to endorse any candidate.

Biden made his announcement, which came as a shock to many, by posting a one-page letter on social media.

He wrote, "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."

Joe Biden's poor debate performance raised concerns about his age and mental acuity within the Democratic Party

The announcement caught many of Joe Biden's staff and supporters off guard.

"No one had a heads up before the tweet posted," claimed one Biden campaign worker. "Which, to me, is an insane way to treat the 1,300 people that work for you on the campaign."

Biden's Covid-19 diagnosis last week added to speculation that he would soon drop out of the race.

The 81-year-old's struggles with health and mental acuity were evident during his June 27 debate against Trump.

During the 90-minute televised debate, Biden frequently mumbled, trailed off mid-sentence, and struggled to articulate his points. In one instance, the GOP presidential nominee seized the opportunity to ridicule Biden's occasionally unclear statements.

Earlier on Sunday, numerous Biden allies took to the airwaves to assert that the POTUS would not be stepping down and would continue his reelection campaign. In his letter, the incumbent mentioned that he would provide more details about his decision in an address to the nation later this week.

Former President Trump responded to Biden's decision by calling him "the worst president in the history of our country" and predicting that Harris would be even easier to defeat in the upcoming election.

Internet reacts as anonymous Democrat official rips Joe Biden

In the wake of President Joe Biden's decision to exit the 2024 presidential race, social media platforms flooded platforms with a mix of outrage, skepticism, and criticism. Many are questioning the implications of his withdrawal and the Democratic Party's strategy moving forward.

Comments range from accusations of election manipulation to concerns about leadership competency and the future of the Democratic platform.

A netizen commented, "Biggest DemocRats Election Scam in US History, obviously," and another said, "Biden is a good example of The Peter Principle. Dems are lionizing him, some with tears, but if they truly see the condition of the World and the Nation left in his wake, they should be horrified of his incompetence. All of our lives are in jeopardy because of it."

"If Biden Cannot Run For Office, Then He Cannot Remain In Office," stated a person, while someone else remarked, "There are always many layers to the onion, if it involves politicians."

"Democrats are a dumpster fire. If Kamala performs poorly in a debate, are they going to switch her too? They have no platform at all or successes to back them up," noted an individual.

Another person expressed, "Joey is a victim of his own hubris. And that of his family, who were desperate in attempting to retain power."

One more stated, "Worst administration ever to be in office. We need someone who cares about our Country and the people who do not want to suffer anymore while big business and Billionaires get richer. Make I formed decisions America. The Democrats do not care about America. Think!"
