Jill Biden's first remarks to Kamala Harris after Joe Biden dropped out of 2024 race revealed
WASHINGTON, DC: Jill Biden still feels betrayed by Democrats who first publicly called for her husband President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race after secretly endorsing him but she is now moving forward, sources have revealed.
Jill was by President Joe Biden's side in Wilmington, Delaware, on the tragic day when the 81-year-old chose to withdraw from the presidential run due to intense pressure from his party colleagues. In fact, he placed the first lady on the phone on Sunday, July 21, when he called Vice President Kamala Harris to let her know his decision.
Jill Biden's first remarks to Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden dropped out
"We love you," she remarked to Harris, according to a person who was familiar with the conversation. Additionally, she gave a call to her close friend Doug Emhoff.
On Monday night, August 19, she will speak at the Democratic National Convention before her husband offers his heartfelt farewell speech and formally passes the reins to Harris. However, she is mostly concentrating on the fall when she will resume her teaching position at a community college in Northern Virginia. She also intends to accompany Harris on her campaign trail.
In her remarks, she will "speak about the President’s strength and character, in a way that only a spouse of nearly 50 years can do, and she’ll reiterate her support for Vice President Harris, calling on Americans to come together 'with faith in each other, hope for a brighter future, and love for our country,'" a source familiar told Daily Mail.
Jill Biden was angry with Kamala Harris during the 2020 race
It was a striking shift in perspective from the 2020 contest when Jill Biden was said to have been upset with Kamala Harris for adopting an attack line during one of the first primary debates to criticize Joe Biden for his support of school busing during the 1960s desegregation efforts.
But as of right now, Jill is definitely in Harris' corner. The first lady shared a handwritten statement supporting Harris on social media after Biden nominated his vice president to be the Democratic nominee. "Thank you for the trust you put in Joe—now it's time to put that trust in Kamala. Love, Jill," it read.
She intends to carry that message with her on the campaign trail. "Of course, she'll be out on the trail for Vice President Harris in the fall," the source noted.
Jill Biden is still pissed at Democrats who questioned her husband Joe Biden's cognition
Even though the first lady is notorious for harboring grudges, she still remembers the days following the first presidential debate, when a lot of Democrats questioned her husband's eligibility to run for reelection.
"The first lady was dismayed at people who privately supported her husband and then publicly did not stand by him while he was weighing whether to stay in the presidential race," a source told the outlet.
Jill Biden has not publicly spoken about Joe Biden's decision to step down
Although Jill Biden has not discussed Joe Biden's decision to resign as the Democratic nominee in public, she will have the opportunity to commemorate his national service when she speaks to the convention on Monday night.
"Down to the last hours of the decision only he could make, she was supportive of whatever road he chose. She's his biggest believer, champion, and always on his side, in that trusted way only a spouse of almost 50 years can be," her communications director Elizabeth Alexander said.
Jill Biden has always been one of Joe Biden's fiercest defenders
As one of Joe Biden's most ardent supporters, Jill Biden is concerned about safeguarding his legacy. And she is a constant presence at his side.
Jill Biden and several family members watched silently from the sidelines the evening before Joe Biden delivered his speech from the Oval Office to the country. She was the first at his side, racing to the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office to hold his hand when he finished speaking.
Following Monday night's remarks, the Bidens will travel to Santa Ynez, California, where they will remain out of the public eye until Harris accepts the Democratic nomination. Jill Biden has been teaching English at the Northern Virginia Community College for years and she will be doing so again this autumn.
She will also concentrate on the projects she launched while serving as first lady, such as her work on the Cancer Moonshot and Joining Forces.
"Last week, she traveled to New Orleans with the President to talk about the Biden Cancer Moonshot, and is finishing up her lesson plans for her fall teaching semester, where she will continue to teach English and writing at NOVA community college, as she has done throughout her years in the White House," Alexander said.
