WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris was set to speak in suburban Detroit on Friday, October 4, when President Joe Biden made a surprise appearance in the White House press briefing room, marking his first-ever visit there.

President Joe Biden's unplanned appearance to warn about elections came just moments before Harris took the stage to give her remarks.

CNN comments on Joe Biden's surprise appearance

CNN covered the situation as it unfolded, noting the timing of the president’s surprise appearance which seemed to clash with Harris’ scheduled address to union workers in Michigan.

CNN anchor Boris Sanchez pointed out the conflicting moments on air.

"We were actually about to go live to Vice President Kamala Harris who's speaking right now in Detroit, Michigan," Sanchez said, according to Daily Mail.

He continued, "Apparently she's talking about this port strike ending, she's trying to appeal to union workers, and yet you have the President of the United States come out, clearly overshadowing her, answering significant questions."

Towards the end, Sanchez questioned, "Is the left hand not talking to the right hand in this situation?"

Political strategist Frank Luntz, who was also present on CNN, responded, "Had the two sides been coordinating, this would not have happened."

She also praised the union for fighting for the workers' rights to "all they deserve in terms of wages and benefits."

Harris was introduced by the president of the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union.

On the other hand, Biden's appearance at the briefing room was to warn "election may not be peaceable."

He stated, "I’m confident it will be free and fair. I don’t know whether it will be peaceful," during his surprise 15-minute appearance, responding to a question from National Public Radio’s Tamara Keith.

Internet criticizes Joe Biden for overshadowing Kamala Harris

The internet reacted to Joe Biden's unexpected appearance, with some suggesting it detracted from Kamala Harris' message.

One person shared a video, writing, "So Kamala was speaking in Michigan just now and Joe Biden decided to counter program her by going to the White House briefing room for the first time as president and talk about how she was a 'major player' in all the horrible things he's done."

Another commenter sarcastically added, "When did he finally find out that this room existed?"

One more pointed out the awkward timing. "It almost feels like they’re stepping on each other’s messages. Not the best way to show unity between the two of them."

Another simply remarked, "Joe is pissed about the coup."
