'Run Joe run': Biden ridiculed as he retires to Delaware beach house before crucial interviews next week
WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden is spending his weekend away from the White House at his well-known beach house in Delaware in preparation for crucial interviews and the Republican Party convention the following week.
The president's weekend at Rehoboth Beach has been relatively quiet after a campaign event on Friday night, July 12, in Michigan.
On Thursday, he acknowledged that he needs to "pace" himself but maintained that he should adopt a more rigorous schedule in advance of the 2024 election, per Fox News.
Joe Biden is expected to take part in two conference calls
Although Joe Biden has no public events scheduled for Saturday in Rehoboth, he is anticipated to participate in two conference calls on Saturday with House Democrats from the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the New Dems Coalition.
In the New Dems Coalition, thirteen Democrats have demanded that Biden withdraw from the 2024 contest.
There have been rumors that the president's weekend trip may include a church service as well. Biden stayed under cover as calls to drop out of the presidential contest grew louder from within his own party as rain was predicted to fall intermittently in Rehoboth Beach for the rest of the day.
Since the president arrived in the area on Friday night, there hasn't been much activity by the Secret Service, according to sources close to the president's vacation house in Sussex County, Delaware, reported the outlet.
Joe Biden will be forced to shift gears for a series of additional high-stakes interviews next week
The president will have to change his approach when he goes back to work the following week in order to prepare for several more crucial interviews that will take place during the Republican National Convention, which is being held in Milwaukee from July 15 to 18.
Lester Holt, anchor of 'NBC Nightly News', and Joe Biden are scheduled to have a taped, one-on-one interview on Monday, July 15, from Austin, Texas. The entire interview, which will be the president's second appearance on cable news following his contentious debate last month, will air that same day at 9 pm ET.
According to Dylan Byers, a senior correspondent for Puck News, the president will participate in two more interviews next week. Byers announced on Thursday that Biden would participate in two interviews during the NAACP Conference: one on Tuesday with a "Black national media outlet" and another on Wednesday with a "Latino national media outlet."
These interviews will take place as Biden tries to persuade voters from across the country who are skeptical of his age and mental capacity, as well as members of his own party, that he is capable of serving four more years in the White House.
Majority of Americans want Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race
A poll conducted on Thursday ahead of Joe Biden's press conference by ABC News and the Washington Post found that most Americans, including most of his own supporters, want him to withdraw from the race.
According to 67 percent of respondents, Biden ought to withdraw from the race, and 85 percent believe he is too old to run for office again. A second term as president would be unwise for former President Donald Trump, according to 60 percent of respondents, up from 44 percent in the spring of 2023.
Sixty-two percent of Democrats and voters who identified as leaning Democratic felt Biden should withdraw from the race. 54 percent of respondents, including those who identified as Biden supporters, felt he should resign.
Despite voters' lack of confidence in Biden, the poll found that he and Trump are virtually tied, with 46 percent of respondents saying they would vote for the incumbent president and 47 percent saying they support Trump.
A total of 18 elected Democrats have called on Biden to step aside in the White House race.
Biden assured supporters at his Detroit rally on Friday that he is "not going anywhere" despite calls for him to drop out of the race.
"You made me the nominee, no one else. Not the press, not the pundits, not the insiders, not donors — you the voters. You decided, no one else, and I’m not going anywhere," the president declared.
Internet mocks Joe Biden as he's set for several interviews next week
Netizens poked fun at the US president as he is set for many interviews this coming week despite growing concerns over his declining mental acuity.
Ever since the CNN Presidential Debate took place, the 81-year-old has been under the limelight for all the wrong reasons and the upcoming months will seemingly prove to be a long time for Biden.
One X (formerly Twitter) user penned, "Run Joe Run! We love Bidenomics! Retail prices up 25% in three years, highest mortgage rates in 30+ years, and real income growth in the ditch!! We need you to “finish the job” — of destroying our economy!"
Another said, "Every speech Biden does he tries to be a comedian to Try and win over his crowd. He’s not funny."
"Nothing that he says would change a thing. He has nothing to run on except put American lives in danger and made us poor. Enough with the bleeding and look forward to making our country strong and successful with Trump again!!! 2024!" remarked one.
"Am not sure if America is aware that they have become a joke amongst Empires , can someone save them face?" someone else asked.
