AUSTIN, TEXAS: President Joe Biden will be interviewed by Lester Holt of NBC News in Austin, Texas, with the exclusive sit-down airing on Monday, July 15.

The prime-time special, set to start at 9 pm ET, will also feature portions of the interview earlier that day on 'NBC Nightly News' and on NBCNews.com, the network announced.

Joe Biden faces pressure to prove his mental sharpness amid calls to withdraw 2024 reelection campaign

This interview follows Joe Biden’s recent appearance with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, amid mounting scrutiny over his mental acuity and calls from at least eight House Democrats for him to drop out of the 2024 race.

The president’s interview with NBC comes in the wake of his perceived weak performance in a recent debate with Trump.

As a result, Biden has increased his media appearances, including interviews and a press conference scheduled for Thursday.

These efforts aim to reassure his supporters and make a compelling case against former President Donald Trump, however not all are seemingly impressed over Biden being adamant about running the race.

Joe Biden's latest interview will air on the first night of the Republican National Convention

Joe Biden’s decision to sit down with NBC’s top news anchor happens just days before the Republican National Convention, which is also scheduled to begin on July 15, setting up a potential split-screen moment for voters.

On Wednesday, high-profile Democrats like megadonor George Clooney also publicly called for Biden to step aside, citing concerns over his debate performance and overall demeanor.

Clooney penned an op-ed in The New York Times urging the president to withdraw from the upcoming election.

“We are not going to win in November with this president,” he wrote while also addressing the dismal debate performance saying, “He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate," when he saw him after that.

In response to the debate fallout, Biden has ramped up his media engagements. He has participated in various interviews, including a call into 'Morning Joe' and a conversation with the Houston Chronicle.

His recent interview with ABC News drew an estimated 8.5 million viewers according to Deadline.

Internet is against any pre-recorded interview of Joe Biden

Despite these efforts, reactions online remain skeptical. Many users on social media have criticized the pre-recorded nature of the NBC or previous interviews.

“Hey Lester take note that we don’t want to hear any question to @POTUS about his age,” jibed one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Another user wrote, “If it’s not live it doesn’t count and won’t do anything to assuage concerns.”

Others echoed this sentiment, questioning the authenticity of a taped and edited interview. “Of course taped and edited ... why not do a live interview?” one asked.

One commenter suggested the interview’s pre-scripted nature diminishes its credibility. “Though it will be highly scripted, that no longer seems to matter for President Biden. This should be entertaining, to say the least."

Another added, “Do it live and not pre-recorded. Also, don’t let the @WhiteHouse provide you with pre-approved questions.”
