WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden told reporters at the White House that he would be "doing 9/11" on Wednesday, September 11, while providing a brief about his upcoming schedule on the evening of Tuesday, September 10, the New York Post reported.

The statement was another verbal gaffe by the 81-year-old president. However, the serious nature of the subject led to him being mercilessly trolled on social media.

Joe Biden makes verbal gaffe while revealing his plans ahead

While preparing to board the Marine One helicopter on the White House lawn, President Joe Biden told reporters at the scene, "I’m going up to my granddaughter’s birthday in New York. Then we’re gonna watch the debate.”

The first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump occurred in a few hours in Pennsylvania, hosted by ABC News.

However, with an unfortunate turn of phrase, Biden continued, "And then tomorrow, I’m doing 9/11."

According to NYP, Biden was referencing taking part in remembrance ceremonies on the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that brought down the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York City.

He is scheduled to travel to Ground Zero in NY and the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, before returning to Washington to mourn the victims of the Pentagon attack.

Internet mocks Joe Biden for his verbal gaffe

Joe Biden faced strong backlash online for his major verbal gaffe on X (formerly Twitter), where netizens called him insensitive.

"He could have been a bit more somber about 9/11. He made it sound like it was a sporting event or something," wrote a user.

"He can't keep getting away with it!" exclaimed another.

"You know, Karine has got to be tired of running cover and explaining for this old fool," shared a third, referring to the White House Press Secretary.

"Honestly I liked it better when he stay in the basement. Man has no clue," jibed a fourth.

"That’s what he thinks of the greatest American tragedy. Just another time slot on his non-existent presidential schedule," added another.

"Can’t hate him enough!" said one person.
