WASHINGTON, DC: A nonprofit, unbiased voting registration technology platform called Vote.org has registered 38,500 voters, the majority of whom are under the age of 34, since President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential contest on Sunday, July 21.

The largest spike in voter registrations for the platform this cycle, at 700%, exceeded the number of registrations when Biden was endorsed by Taylor Swift in 2020. Although the vast bulk of the registrations were counted for an unknown affiliation, given the timing, it is likely that they are Democrats.

What did the CEO of Vote.org say?

“Vote.org smashed a 48-hour record for new voter registrations during the 2024 cycle, registering more than 38,500 Americans over that timeframe following President Joe Biden’s announcement on Sunday,” Andrea Hailey, CEO of Vote.org, said in a press release, according to Washington Examiner

“Younger voters led the way, making up 83% of new registrations. A healthy democracy depends on all Americans making their voices heard at the ballot box, and this is a highly encouraging sign that voters are ready to do just that,” she added.

The increase in voter registration may also indicate a surge in support for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party's front-runner since Biden's departure. Not long after Biden left the campaign, other indicators began to emerge for the Harris campaign, including a massive increase in fundraising and a deluge of volunteers.

Tayor Swift is yet to publicly back Kamala Harris

Taylor Swift has not yet publicly endorsed a presidential candidate, so there are still calls for her to speak out in favor of Kamala Harris. An article this week claiming to be about a show in Los Angeles appeared on the UK Discoverer website.

"Breaking News: Beyonce and Taylor Swift to Host Monumental Fundraising Concert in Support of Kamala Harris," read the article's headline, which claimed the announcement "has sent shockwaves through the entertainment and political worlds, with many dubbing it a game-changing moment in the current political landscape."

According to the article, there were rumors that the event would also feature other top-selling music stars, including Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Jay-Z, and Kendrick Lamar.

A joint statement attributed to Grammy winners Swift and Beyoncé read, "We believe in the power of music to bring people together and drive change. This concert is our way of using our platforms to support a leader who is dedicated to making a positive impact on our country. We are thrilled to bring our fans together for a night of incredible music and unity in support of Kamala Harris."

TV analyst Joyce Vance, the former United States attorney for the Northern District of Alabama from 2009 to 2017, shared the article on X, formerly Twitter. After a number of X users pointed out that the website in question is not a reliable source, Vance deleted the post without comment.

Taylor Swift had extended support to Kamala Harris in 2020

Taylor Swift expressed her support for Kamala Harris during the 2020 election cycle, but she hasn't commented on the most recent developments in the presidential race yet.

Swift said "YES" in response to Harris' August 2020 post on X where the Democrat said she was "honored to join [Biden] as our party's nominee for vice president, and do what it takes to make him our commander-in-chief."

In October 2020, Swift again expressed her support for Harris as she promoted her interview with V magazine, in which the pop superstar said why she was backing Biden. "So apt that it's come out on the night of the VP debate," the musician wrote, adding "Gonna be watching and supporting @KamalaHarris by yelling at the TV a lot."

Internet terms the new registered voters 'illegal aliens'

Netizens berated Kamala Harris and opined that the newly registered voters are none other than illegal immigrants. The Biden administration has faced severe criticism from the people in the US due to their open border policies which prompted a rapid influx from the neighboring nations and jeopardized the security of the country in the process.

One X user tweeted, "Illegals that were given phones at the border received a text in their language to register. This is my opinion." Another said, "You think those illegal aliens were all brought in for nothing?" "Signing up illegal aliens without their knowledge maybe?" echoed one more user.

"Of course. They are illegals now registered to vote," remarked one and someone else penned, "Gotta get those illegal aliens registered!!"
