Joe Manganiello claims ex-wife Sofia Vergara 'ridiculed' him over his dog during health scare
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Joe Manganiello has accused his former wife, Sofia Vergara, of mistreatment and being emotionally unavailable as he battled a near-fatal autoimmune disease during their marriage.
The actor, 49, and Vergara were married from 2015 to 2024.
Joe Manganiello says he has all the scars to prove his near-fatal autoimmune disease
Now, in his upcoming memoir, ‘Bloodlines’, releasing on October 13, Manganiello has recalled those difficult years and the alleged mean behavior of the Colombian-American actress towards him, as per PEOPLE.
His health issue began shortly after he tied the knot with Vergara in 2015. “It happened to me, and it’s the truth, and I have all the scars to prove it,” he said, before noting, “[Autoimmune] conditions are a dumping ground for things [doctors] don’t understand.”
Joe Manganiello claims his marriage with Sofia Vergara became 'devoid of any emotionality' amid his illness
The ‘Magic Mike’ star further revealed that he was put on medication for nerve pain as well as to treat Crohn’s and colitis, but “none of them worked on me.”
And while he went hospital to hospital and doctor to doctor to get the right treatment, his marriage crumbled, which he writes had “become devoid of any emotionality whatsoever.”
In his book, Manganiello has alleged that the ‘Modern Family’ actress did not hug him even after his request. He also accused her of making fun of his 5-lb chihuahua Bubbles, a then-sickly pup he had adopted in 2019.
The ‘Magic Mike's Last Dance’ actor, however, claimed that his pet dog helped him as he “went from being the patient to the caretaker.”
Joe Manganiello denies Sofia Vergara's reason for breaking their marriage
The illness also took away the dream of having children with Vergara, as per Manganiello’s memoir.
The ‘Griselda’ star had claimed that their marriage “broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom.”
But Manganiello, in his book, has clarified that was not the case. He asserted that he decided to not have children with her because of his health issues.
Also, after failed IVF attempts, another option they were left with was egg donors, but he did not consider that because he didn’t want to die and leave Vergara with a child “who wasn’t biologically hers.”
“There were things said and printed about me that were false,” he asserted.
However, now Manganiello is in good shape and engaged to Caitlin O’Connor. He shared, “Caitlin came into my life at this point where it was obvious to me that [she] was the direction to go,” before adding, “For seven years I thought I was going to be dead the next week. The world has opened back up to me.”
