Joe Manganiello claims shaman told him Sofia Vergara’s ex-fiance put a ‘voodoo curse’ on him

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sofia Vergara's ex, Joe Manganiello, reportedly made a shocking claim about an alleged "voodoo curse" in his memoir, 'Bloodlines.'

In the book, he reportedly wrote that a shaman (a spiritual person believed to act as a bridge between the physical world and the spirit realm) told him that one of Vergara's exes had allegedly placed a "voodoo curse" on him.

According to Manganiello, the alleged curse was linked to his mysterious illness and problems with his intestines.

As per Manganiello's account, while he sought answers about his declining health, he received several diagnoses, but none seemed to explain the core issue. According to the actor, however, the issue was not a disease but a curse placed on him. In his new memoir, the 49-year-old revealed that he learned about it during a phone conversation with a shaman living in Cuba.

Manganiello explained that he was surprised when the shaman noted that the actor was "sick" and that "something is wrong with his intestines." He added, "There were members of my close family who didn’t know any of that, let alone some random guy on the phone. I side-eyed Sofía with a look that was equal parts fear, anger, and disbelief."

That was when the shaman allegedly shared, "Someone from your past is still in love with you. He put a voodoo curse on your husband. He did it in New Orleans," he told the couple. "Your husband needs to be cleansed and protected," he added.

The shaman reportedly continued, "I can do this. I can help him. But I need to see him for two days, and I cannot come to the United States. Can he meet me somewhere else? I could meet him in Ecuador."

Manganiello was bewildered by the revelation. "I looked at Sofía, trying to comprehend how the this guy could possibly know any of this," he wrote. "None of this had been mentioned in the press. No one knew."

The 'True Blood' alum went on to cycle "through all of her exes that I knew about" and immediately thought of "the guy she was with right before me," seemingly referring to Vergara’s ex-fiancé, Nick Loeb. For those unaware, Loeb and Vergara separated in May 2014, and the 'Modern Family' actress began dating Manganiello in June of the same year.

"He was a trust fund baby," Manganiello wrote of Loeb. "He had gotten into a horrendous car wreck while they were together and broke almost every bone in his body. He’d spent a lot of time in the hospital, just like I did," he mentioned.

The actor continued, "The thought crossed my mind maybe it was Sofía who was cursed, cursed by some man in her past who couldn’t have her, so he put some sort of hex on her so that for the rest of her life, she’d transmit it to any man who got together with her."

He further admitted, "I was fully aware of how crazy it was for me to seriously entertain thoughts this bizarre, but then again, how did the shaman know all of that about me?"

Joe Manganiello’s battle with mystery illness

The actor suffered from a mysterious, undiagnosed illness rather than a single named disorder. His seven-year health battle began shortly after his 2015 marriage to Vergara. Manganiello, 49, has opened up about recovering from a health crisis that led to "major organ amputation."

"I can’t believe I’m alive," he said. "I feel like I was reborn," Manganiello added.

According to the 'True Blood' star, it all started with excruciating abdominal pain that left him unable to walk as his digestive tract ulcerated. He also experienced fevers, blistering rashes, headaches, and fatigue. "I was getting sicker and sicker," he said.

"It happened to me, and it’s the truth, and I have all the scars to prove it," Manganiello said of the bizarre health issue, for which he never received a conclusive diagnosis. "(Autoimmune) conditions are a dumping ground for things (doctors) don’t understand," he concluded.
