John Oliver lands three-episode 'General Hospital' role after publicly asking for a 'juicy' part'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Oliver is officially making his way to 'General Hospital', and it's a casting choice that fans of both late-night television and daytime drama never saw coming.
Months after the 'Last Week Tonight' host publicly expressed his desire to join the iconic soap opera, his wish has become a reality. While the comedian has built his career around political satire and sharp commentary, his latest move takes him into an entirely different world.
The guest appearance stems from an on-air "juicy" comment that quickly gained attention.
John Oliver lands a three-episode role on 'General Hospital'
Oliver has landed a guest role on 'General Hospital' and will appear in a three-episode arc airing on July 2, July 3 and July 6. The casting comes after the comedian openly campaigned for a role during a March episode of 'Last Week Tonight', where he jokingly pitched himself to soap opera producers.
At the time, Oliver said, "Write me a role, and I'll be on your set so fast it'll make your head spin." He also made it clear that he didn't want to play himself, adding that he wanted a fictional character with "a ridiculous name." Promising complete commitment to the part, he declared, "Trust me, I will give my all to this performance."
The casting comes just months after Oliver, 49, publicly campaigned for a role on the iconic daytime soap. During the March 8 episode of 'Last Week Tonight', he jokingly asked for a "juicy" part on 'General Hospital'.

The show's creative team eventually answered his request, with Oliver revealing on the June 28 episode of his HBO series that he had officially been cast.
"When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn't hesitate for a second," 'General Hospital' executive producer Frank Valentini said in a press release.
Valentini added, "He was everything you'd hope he'd be: prepared, professional, funny and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character in the story, and I can't wait for fans to see who he crosses paths with in Port Charles."
Oliver also shared his excitement about joining the legendary soap. "'General Hospital' was everything I hoped it would be. It's a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show," Oliver said in a statement.
