LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Oliver, the sharp-witted host of 'Last Week Tonight', couldn't resist taking a humorous dig at former President Donald Trump after he was found guilty by a New York court on May 30 in a criminal case.

Yet, amid the thrill of the moment, Oliver couldn't help but inject a dose of sobering cynicism into the proceedings.

John Oliver says it's 'fun to watch' Donald Trump battling his legal troubles

According to Daily Beast, Trump's conviction on 34 felony counts, including falsifying business records related to the hush money paid to Stormy Daniels, marked a significant legal blow.

Oliver, ever the satirical commentator, didn't miss a beat in highlighting the irony and satisfaction of witnessing Trump's legal woes unfold in real-time.

"A New York businessman got into some legal trouble, which was undeniably fun to watch unfold live," Oliver deadpanned as he kicked off his latest episode, setting the stage for his cynical take on the situation.

As NBC News anchor Laura Jarrett rattled off the guilty verdicts, Oliver paused the clip with a wry remark: "And it is so satisfying to watch, I’d honestly be surprised if someone hadn’t already uploaded it to PornHub by now."

Oliver, however, also contemplated the possibility of Trump's resurgence in the political arena. He suggested that Trump could still somehow win his way back into the White House this November.

"Anyway, that will be so fun to remember five months from now when we’re all watching that exact anchor count the 270 electoral votes that Trump’s won because nothing matters and we live in a broken world," Oliver remarked, punctuating his commentary with a dose of bleak realism.

Despite his cynical outlook, Oliver hinted at the potential for further analysis following Trump's sentencing on July 11.

Internet reacts to John Oliver's remarks on Donald Trump's guilty verdict

People online expressed concern as well as skepticism over the motives behind and implications of Trump's conviction.

One user wrote, "So does the Regime want to convince people that the only way to stop him is to kill him?"

Another said, "Woah...deep s**t here. Walter Cronkite is taking notice. Tools."

One commented, "At least we're all acknowledging that this is election interference."

Another said, "Yes because of mainstream media like Daily Beast treating this like another horse race and like Trump isn’t an existential threat to the future of America."

One added, ""Our enthusiasm"? I mean damn we knew you were left wing but way to bluntly be straight up honest that you are no real journalists."
