Piers Morgan, Megyn Kelly dubbed 'hypocrites' for accusing other talk show hosts of 'incendiary' approach
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During an episode of 'Piers Morgan Uncensored' on March 27, Piers Morgan invited Megyn Kelly to discuss late-night hosts Stephen Colbert and John Oliver's jokes about Kate Middleton, while also taking aim at Jimmy Kimmel for featuring a Donald Trump social media post during the Oscars ceremony.
Kelly expressed, "I’m not as offended by the speculation around Kate as some are." Instead, she objected to Colbert and Oliver using Middleton's absence for attention.
Morgan and Kelly criticize Stephen Colbert and John Oliver for sensationalism over substance
Moving on, Kelly also criticized their approach, stating, "Those two in particular do everything for clicks. They’re not based in truth. At one point, they just wanted to make people laugh."
"Now, they just want applause for saying the right incendiary thing about the Republicans or the royals, or whatever their latest target is," she added.
Morgan then criticized a skit by Colbert where he openly mocked the state of Middleton's marriage to Prince William, stating that it "crossed the line" for him.
He pointed out that Colbert was aware that Middleton had undergone major abdominal surgery at the time.
Morgan also expressed his disapproval of John Oliver's joke suggesting that Kate "may have been dead for 18 months."
"Again, he didn’t know how bad it was, but he knew she’d had major surgery," Morgan remarked, continuing, "It seems to me that you have to have some lines in this, even if you’re comedic."
Megyn Kelly criticizes Jimmy Kimmel and praises Stephen Colbert's apology
Kelly also criticized Jimmy Kimmel for reading a Trump Truth Social post during the Oscars, in which the ex-POTUS criticized Kimmel's hosting abilities.
"He wasn’t going for laughs. His new business is just to be loved because he’s the former fat guy who likes to make fun of Donald Trump. That’ll get him enough tune-in each night to pay his fat salary," she remarked.
However, it's worth noting that Kimmel was among the first to urge viewers to stop speculating about Middleton’s whereabouts and to "leave this woman alone."
In contrast, Colbert apologized on March 26 for his Middleton skits, stating, "I do not make light of someone else’s tragedy."
Kelly also made clear her preference for certain members of the royal family during the segment: "I’m Team William and Kate and definitely not Team Sussex."
Referring to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, she questioned, "How did we get stuck with them?"
Netizens call Piers Morgan 'hyprocrite'
In view of the interview, netizens took to social media to slam the host, with one saying, "The person who bullied and harassed The Princess of Wales the most has never apologized! Piers Morgan. He is still asking what kind of cancer it is. The irony of this interview when Piers has never apologized!!"
Another chimed in, "Piers is such a hypocrite, blames everyone for disrespecting the Royal family’s privacy while doing exactly that for click baits."
Someone else said, "These 2 hypocrites have not apologized for what they said."
Another added, "Leave the princess alone! Tired of this story."
"In my humble opinion both of you owe Princess Catherine an apology for fanning the flames and piling on during the insanity. Neither one of you were the loudest voice, but you each played a part. As decent human beings you should apologize for your part. Please," said another viewer.
"What a hypocrisy fest from those two. Pathetic. Get a mirror," one wrote, while another said, "Why are you talking about what Stephen Colbert did when Megyn Kelly did an entire episode with a panel and mocked and laughed evilly about two women Catherine Wales and Sarah Rose Hanbury? You too are a hypocrite Pierce Morgan."
