John Stamos recalls Bob Saget’s support after 2015 DUI arrest: ‘No judgment, no lecture’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Stamos is remembering his late 'Full House' costar Bob Saget and the support he received from him during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
Stamos received the Bob Saget Legacy Award at the Scleroderma Research Foundation's 'Cool Comedy - Hot Cuisine' fundraising event on Tuesday, October 13. The actor also reflected on Saget's lasting legacy and how he believes his late friend continues to live through his eight-year-old son, Billy.

Accepting the award, Stamos recalled how the late actor supported him following his headline-making DUI arrest in 2015. "There are a lot of things you don't get anymore when you lose someone like Bob Saget," he said, reflecting on the special qualities of their friendship.
Stamos explained that Saget made sure the people around him knew they were loved. "I know that sounds simple, but he didn't just love people. He made absolute sure that they knew it, whether they wanted to know it or not," he added.
Recalling the night of his arrest, Stamos said he had been on his way to meet Saget at the Palm when he was arrested for driving under the influence and ended up in the hospital.
When he regained consciousness, he saw someone standing over him and initially thought he had died and was in heaven. "And for a second I thought I died. I thought it was heaven and it was God. I started to focus and it wasn't God, it was Bob. And knowing Bob the way I do, I immediately checked to see if my zipper was down," Stamos recalled.
He described Saget as being "as close to an angel as I've ever known" that night, adding, "No judgment, no lecture, just concern and love. He showed up and he loved me. That's who Bob was."
Stamos also said Saget supported him after the deaths of his parents and remained present through different stages of his life. "He was there when my life fell apart and he was there when my life finally came back together," he said.
John Stamos says Bob Saget lives on through his son Billy
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the fundraising event, Stamos said he believes Saget continues to live through his eight-year-old son, Billy, whom he shares with his wife, Caitlin. The actor and musician explained that he is always looking for signs of his late friend.
Stamos also revealed that he and Billy had written a children's book about hummingbirds, which explores the idea of spirits from the past returning. "But I swear to God, I see Bob and my son now all the time," he said.
Describing how his son reminds him of Saget, Stamos added, "He's got toilet Tourette's. Today he came home and said, 'Mom, Dad, poop. That's Bob.' So Bob is making me laugh through my son, which is really special.”
Saget, who died at 65, was found in his hotel room at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando in Grande Lakes, Florida, on January 9, 2022. Authorities determined that his death resulted from blunt head trauma sustained in an unwitnessed fall in the room.
He had been a dedicated advocate for scleroderma research after his sister, Gay Saget, died from systemic scleroderma in 1994 at the age of 47.
