NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On ‘Morning Joe,’ guest host Jon Meacham said that Trump supporters find humor in his brashness, and that’s why they continue to back him.

"For the rest of us — the question is, are the people who are committed to voting for Donald Trump — again for the third time — are they affected by any of this?" Meacham questioned. "My own bet is no. This is something they have decided they are willing to put up with," he claimed.

Meacham’s comments came during an interview on MSNBC regarding Trump’s ongoing hush-money trial and the media firestorm surrounding it, including his criticism of Judge John M Merchan’s family and a compilation of news stories that support his version of events.

“When you take a step back and think just this week, a president who is sitting in a courtroom over a hush money payment to a porn star, we’re talking about hypotheticals at the Supreme Court, his attorneys of whether or not he could use Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political opponent, when you think about the indictments that came down two days ago in Arizona where people on his behalf appointed themselves as fake electors and tried to overturn the results of the election,” host Willie Geist said.

Geist added, “You do have to take a step back sometimes and just digest how unprecedented, how extraordinary it is to see one man, one president having allegedly done all this.”

Meacham compared Trump’s behavior to a ‘Walking Dead’ episode. He described it as a "C-SPAN version" where it’s hard to understand what’s going on. He stressed the importance of a critical investigation into a president’s authority, which could protect Trump from legal repercussions.

"It’s like ‘The Walking Dead,’ the C-SPAN version," he remarked, highlighting, "It’s just this crazy land of things. It is hard to keep it all straight. Politically, constitutionally, the most important thing that unfolded was the Supreme Court yesterday, trying to figure out what are the powers, what’s the limit of the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, the President of the United States, and that’s a vastly important question."

Jon Meacham says Trump is 'fundamentally an entertainer'

Meacham admitted that Trump's appeal to his followers is very similar to his TV personality from 'The Apprentice.' He argued that many Americans put their fascination for Trump above other national concerns.

“The hard truth about the American character at the moment is, people kind of like this. Let’s just be honest. This is more entertaining than trying to figure out what to do about the manufacturing of computer chips or dealing with the complexities of the Middle East or collective security in Europe,” Meacham said.

He also said, “Those are hard things and if the country really wanted to focus on, guess what, that’s what they would focus on."

"Trump is fundamentally an entertainer. That’s where he started. The test we’re facing — and I was thinking about this all day yesterday — the test we’re facing as citizens, do we want a reality show or do we want reality? Do we want to govern our affairs in a less vivid but certainly more serious way?”

Internet says America is not a 'reality show' and Trump is not an entertainer

The internet had mixed views about Meacham's claims that Trump voters like the former POTUS's legal battles because he's "entertaining."

One viewer retorted, "Sorry, we don't like it! This is our country not a reality show. He is making us look like a joke!!! I can't stand even looking at his face, LET ALONE how he is making a mockery out of America."

Another viewer said, "I'm not entertained but rather disgusted. Lock him up."

Another comment read, "People who have bought into the whole Donald Trump cult of personality thing are not going to be dissuaded by any of this stuff."

One more comment read, "America has gone from dumb to dumber."

"John Meacham nailed it! This is truly a test for humanity. " Do we want a reality show, or do we want reality?" Breathless analysis," said one viewer.

"There's a reason why some people are sheep," another viewer agreed.
