NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Comedian Jon Stewart could not contain his amusement as former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki criticized 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' campaign for teaming up with Republican royalty Liz Cheney, during her appearance on the Friday, February 14, episode of his podcast, 'The Weekly Show'.

The daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney and ex-Congresswoman for Wyoming, Liz Cheney was not the right person to take the Democrats through the finish line in the last general election, claimed Psaki.

Jen Psaki's take on Liz Cheney campaigning for Kamala Harris

MSNBC host Jen Psaki told 'The Daily Show' host Jon Stewart on Friday, “Liz Cheney is very heroic, but I don’t think closing the campaign with a message about fighting democracy with a former Republican member of Congress was the right strategy.”

Her statement had Stewart laughing out loud, even though similar criticism has been leveled by others in the past, as per the Daily Beast.

Psaki reportedly echoed the sentiment of critics who felt the Democratic campaign's preoccupation with Cheney prevented them from reaching out to voters on the left who felt alienated by her neoconservatism.

“I’m not saying that’s why they lost,” clarified Psaki.

"What I’m saying is there were millions of people who didn’t turn out to vote, many of whom in the past have leaned toward Democratic issues, leaned toward Democratic candidates, and Trump somehow massively won on issues like the economy... That reality means that maybe something isn’t going well," she added.

Harris had campaigned in three battleground states — Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan — with Cheney.

“I believe so strongly, that in this election … we need to elect the person who is the responsible adult,” Cheney said at the time, per The Washington Post.

Social media users felt Jen Psaki's criticism of the Kamala Harris campaign had come too late.

"Yeah THAT was the difference-maker: Liz Cheney," wrote a user sarcastically.

"Where was this pushback when it actually mattered?" asked another.

"Jen Psaki said nothing of the sort in the campaign’s closing days. She, along with Carville, can ride off into the political sunset," noted one user.

"Why speak up now Jen? You’re just as bad as the rest of them!" exclaimed another.

"Not seeing how this is helpful in the current situation. Or relevant," stated a user.

"Oh, that's nice. NOW she's Captain Obvious!?" echoed yet another.
