Wilck's parents ran outside the home to escape the attack but Wilck followed them, putting his arms around one of the victims' necks. He was hauled off and taken into custody by the responding police.

The old couple's condition at the hospital on Sunday, February 25, night was listed as critical but stable, News 12 Long Island reported.

After being taken into custody, Wilck was accused of two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, aggravated criminal contempt, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and resisting arrest, as reported by PIX11

The attack's motivation was not disclosed by Nassau County police. “It’s surprising,” Karishma Tank, a neighbor, remarked. “You never really hear about stories like that. It’s a quiet neighborhood... People get along with each other.”

Wilck is expected in court for his arraignment on February 26.
