Joy Reid laughs at Trump burning in hell with Epstein joke after Paula White’s Jesus comparison
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A heated on-air moment unfolded on April 4 as Joy Reid reacted to comments about Donald Trump during a segment of her show, quickly spiraling into laughter alongside sharp criticism.
The reaction came in response to a viral speech by Pastor Paula White, where she compared Trump’s struggles to those of Jesus.
The remarks, originally made at what was meant to be a private event, drew strong reactions once they surfaced online. Reid, joined by SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah, did not hold back while discussing the moment on her show.

Paula White’s comments comparing Donald Trump to Jesus spark backlash
The conversation was triggered by a speech from Pastor Paula White, who serves as a spiritual adviser to Trump and is also part of the White House Faith Office.
In her remarks, she drew a direct comparison between Trump and Jesus, saying, “Mr. President, no one has paid the price like you have paid the price. It almost cost you your life. You were betrayed and arrested. And falsely accused.”
She continued by linking Trump’s experience to the resurrection story, adding, “It’s a familiar pattern that our Lord and Savior showed us. But it didn’t end there for Him, and it didn’t end there for you. God always had a plan.”
White went further, saying, “On the third day, He rose, he defeated evil, he conquered death, hell, and the grave. And because he rose we all know that we can rise. And sir, because of his resurrection you rose up.”
Joy Reid reacts on-air as Dean Obeidallah mocks the moment
During Friday’s episode of her show, Reid struggled to hold back her reaction as the clip was discussed.
“Oh, oh, oh. I can’t listen to no more of that! I’m gonna get struck by lightning! That is heresy,” she said.
Obeidallah joined in, questioning the comparison and adding his own commentary. “Exactly! What is, that is, Donald, first of all, you see how uncomfortable Trump was? Because she evoked the Lord and Jesus,” he said.
The discussion quickly turned more pointed, with Obeidallah making a controversial remark about Trump’s legacy.
“Folks, there are people saying, ‘When is the Lord gonna call Trump home?’ It’s not the Lord, it’s the devil!” he said.
He continued with a provocative line, adding, “At some point, the devil’s gonna be like, ‘Donald, you’ve done more damage than I could ever hope. Thanks! Come on home. I think you know your friend, Jeffrey Epstein.’”
At that point, Reid broke into laughter on-air.
Segment turns sharper with comments about religion and politics
The conversation did not stop there. Obeidallah continued, painting a vivid and controversial picture.
“They’re gonna be hanging out in the green room down there, the poo room, whatever they’re gonna to be doing,” he said, as Reid laughed.
He also referenced other religious figures, criticizing what he described as extreme views within certain circles.
“But this, and you know who’s standing next to her? Reverend Jeffress, who is the guy who called Catholicism a religion that comes out of Satan’s womb,” he added.
The tone of the segment remained critical, with Obeidallah concluding with a blunt remark: “They’re delusional… Invoked Trump is like Jesus? Trump’s the devil!”
