Julian Faulkner: Georgia man fatally beats store clerk who extended help with hammer in brutal attack
ATLANTA, GEORGIA:A man allegedly fatally attacked a store clerk who had been assisting him with a hammer in a brutal incident at a Georgia gas station.
DeKalb County Police Department officers were called to respond to an assault around 12:20 am on Tuesday, January 16, at a Chevron gas station located in the 3300 block of Snapfinger Road.
Upon arrival, authorities found the suspect, later identified as 53-year-old Julian Faulkner, holding a hammer and standing over the victim.
Upon police orders, Faulkner placed the hammer on a nearby table and was subsequently taken into custody. Authorities also discovered two knives and an additional hammer in his possession, according to the police statement.
The victim died at the scene
Vivek Saini, the 25-year-old victim, endured "severe head trauma," as per reports. Paramedics declared Saini deceased at the scene, where a significant amount of blood splatter and scattered brain tissues were observed, according to the police incident report.
Authorities discovered a witness, another store clerk, in the back of the booth, visibly shaken and almost unable to speak due to fear.
The witness cooperated with officers and provided access to surveillance cameras, which reportedly captured footage of Faulkner repeatedly striking Saini's skull with a hammer. The witness had also called 911 during the attack.
Why did Faulkner kill Saini?
As reported by Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB, store clerks had permitted Faulkner, who is homeless, to enter the store due to cold weather, providing him with chips, soda, and water.
However, after a couple of days, Faulkner seemingly overstayed his welcome, prompting Saini to instruct him that it was time to leave.
When Saini left the store to go home, Faulkner attacked him with a hammer, striking him about 50 times on the face and head, the affidavit reportedly said.
Detectives tried to interview Faulkner at the police station, but he declined to speak with them. Faulkner is facing a murder charge and is being held at the DeKalb County Jail without bond.
