WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris praised President Joe Biden after he endorsed her as the Democratic Party's nominee for president after he decided to drop out of the 2024 race.

On Monday, July 22, the vice president, who has prepared to visit her new campaign office, made her first public appearance since Joe Biden's candidacy withdrawal.

During an event for National Collegiate Athletic Association championship teams from the 2023-2024 season on the South Lawn of the White House, Harris began her speech by praising Biden who was initially scheduled to headline the event but was unable to attend due to testing positive for Covid-19.

Noting the president's recovery, Harris said, "He is feeling much better and recovering fast. He looks forward to getting back on the road."

"In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who have served two terms in office," she said of Biden.

She continued to commend Biden's service to the country and also recounted her first meeting with him through his late son Beau Biden who died in 2015.

Kamala Harris' tribute to Beau Biden

Harris and Beau both served as state attorneys general with Harris in California and Beau in Delaware.

Praising Beau, the vice president said, "The qualities that Beau revered in his father are the same qualities I have seen every day in our president: His honesty, his integrity, his commitment to his faith, and his family is a big part of it and his love of country."

"We are deeply deeply grateful for his service to our nation," she said.

This heartfelt tribute to Beau highlighted her personal connection and mutual respect that played a significant role in Biden's decision to choose Harris as his vice president as Beau admired her, according to Daily Mail.

Kamala Harris' campaign kickoff

Following her first speech since Biden dropped out of the race, Harris plans to head to Wilmington, Delaware, to meet with campaign staff on Monday, July 22.

"It's the first full day of our campaign, so I'm heading up to Wilmington, DE later to say "hello" to our staff in HQ. One day down. 105 to go. Together, we're going to win this," she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).



 

Internet trolls Kamala Harris as she praises Joe Biden's legacy of accomplishments

As Harris, who is set out to rally for support, praised Biden's legacy of accomplishments a day after he withdrew his candidacy for the 2024 race, netizens mocked the vice president's remarks in her first speech since the president endorsed her.

One user on X wrote, "Accomplishments? I guess bad ones are still accomplishments" and another user wrote, "Now that is delusional."



 



 

"The man achieved nothing," a user tweeted while a netizen commented, "I’m confused …what accomplishments ?" and another user tweeted, "Crooked liar she is."
