ASTON, PENNSYLVANIA: Democratic nominee Kamala Harris fumbled on stage at a CNN town hall on Wednesday, October 23, when pressed by moderator Anderson Cooper about her stance on the border wall.

A signature policy of former president and GOP nominee Donald Trump, the border wall was initially fiercely opposed by the Democrats, before incumbent Joe Biden approved building a new section in light of increased border crossings in 2023, according to BBC.

Kamala Harris answers whether 'border wall is stupid'

With few days remaining till the Election Day of November 5, Anderson Cooper asked Kamala Harris about her stance on border security, and the wall between the United States and Mexico in particular, which has been a point of contention between the GOP and the Democrats.

"Let's talk about this compromise bill that you want to pass if you are elected," the CNN anchor stated on the subject.

"You said that's going to be a priority. It includes $650 million in funding for the border wall. That's something Republicans wanted that was part of the compromise. Under Donald Trump, you criticized the wall more than 50 times. You called it ‘stupid, useless, and a medieval vanity project.’ Is a border wall stupid?"

The vice president initially tried to laugh it off while taking a dig at her GOP rival, as she said, "Let's talk about Donald Trump on that border wall. So remember, Donald Trump said Mexico would pay for it. Come on, they didn't. How much of that wall did he build? I think the last number I saw was about 2%. And then when it came time for him to do a photo op, you know, where he did it? In the part of the wall that president Obama built."

However, Cooper was undeterred and reminded her that she had "agreed to a bill that would earmark $650 million to continue building that."

"I pledge that I am going to bring forward that bipartisan bill to further strengthen and secure our border. Yes, I am, and I'm going to work across the aisle to pass a comprehensive bill that deals with a broken immigration system," Harris explained.

"We need a president who is grounded in common sense and practical outcomes, like, let's just fix this thing. Let's just fix it. Why is there any ideological perspective on this? Let's just fix the problem," she added.

When Cooper pressed her specifically on the subject of the border wall and approving funds for continuing to build it, Harris stated that she was not "afraid of good ideas," and that the reason she opposed Trump's vision was because "he didn't do much of anything."

"But you do want to build some wall?" Cooper asked a visibly flustered Harris, and she concluded, "I want to strengthen the border."

Internet trolls Kamala Harris' response to border wall question

Netizens on the social media platform X reacting to Kamala Harris' comments at the town hall compared it to a car crash and praised Cooper for grilling the vice president. The following tweets demonstrate the predominant takes.

"Kamala Harris painted herself into a corner and Anderson Cooper got her good on the border wall. Well done!" wrote a user.

"It’s like watching a car crash in slow motion!" stated another.

"Has she ever directly answered a single question this entire election cycle???" inquired a third user.

"She’s incredibly bad at this," quipped a fourth.

"Anderson Cooper is absolutely, accidentally cooking Kamala," noted a fifth.

"It really is amazing just how bad she is off script, truly," jibed yet another.

A user said, "Even Cooper knows this clown is a joke."
