QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA: Former Vice President Kamala Harris made an eerie comparison between President Donald Trump's administration’s "America First" policy and US' isolationism in the 1930s, which many historians believe escalated World War II.

She also took an indirect swipe at tech billionaire Elon Musk, alluding to an interview the Tesla CEO did with podcast titan Joe Rogan in March 2025, where he warned that the West’s empathy was being weaponized, according to the New York Post.

During an interview with Australian real estate behemoth John McGrath at the 2025 Australian Real Estate Conference, Harris said, "There was someone that is very popular these days, at least in the press, who suggested that it is a sign of weakness of Western civilizations to have empathy."

The former VP continued, "Imagine. No, it’s a sign of strength to have some level of curiosity and concern and care about the well-being of others."

Interestingly, during Musk's March interview with Rogan, the multi-billionaire emphasized that "you should care about other people", but added, "We’ve got civilizational suicidal empathy going on."

Musk stated, per CNN, "The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy, the empathy exploit. They’re exploiting a bug in Western civilization, which is the empathy response."

Meanwhile, Harris seemed to lament Trump’s foreign policy approach but did not mention him or any of his top officials by name.

"I do worry, frankly, about what’s happening in the world right now. It’s important that we remember the 1930s," Harris said.

The former Democratic presidential nominee added, "It’s important that we remember that history has taught us that isolation does not equal insulation [and] the importance of relationships of trust, of the importance of friendships, integrity, honesty."

Interestingly, Harris refrained from slamming any of Trump's policies specifically, but took issue with his "America First" approach to foreign affairs, per the outlet.

Harris has been vocal during Trump’s second term in the White House despite her crushing defeat in 2024.

In April, she delivered a stern rebuke of Trump while speaking at Emerge’s 20th anniversary gala in San Francisco.

She slammed the POTUS for creating "the greatest manmade economic crisis in modern presidential history" and engaging in a "wholesale abandonment" of American ideals.

Internet trolls Kamala Harris for her eerie comparison

Several internet users trolled Kamala Harris as she made an eerie comparison between Trump's administration’s "America First" policy to 1930s-style isolationism.

An online comment read, "I’ve got a better one Kamala, remember 2021-2024!" while one added, "I remember 2020-2024. Thankfully those awful years are over."

A person also stated, "What, pray tell, does she know, much less understand, about the 1930’s? That is aside from the obvious - that it was somewhere between the 1920’s & the 1940’s. And yes, she is unemployed, and hopefully, unemployable," whereas one mentioned, "The more she talks, the more people run from the Democrats. Somebody really needs to tell her to go away if that party wants to have any hope."

A user also wrote, "Another speech without policy or solutions," while one commented, "Who exactly is she to talk about anyone regarding intellect or curiosity ? The fact that she has an audience for her word salad is amazing."

A person added, "She should learn how to put three words together to form a sentence. Also she should just get lost so the whole world can forget about her. Her political future is over."
