WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris has retracted a number of her far-left positions in the week after she announced her candidacy for president in response to President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the contest.

Harris appealed to the left edge of the Democratic Party in order to gain support during her prioritization campaign for president years ago. She ended the campaign in December 2019 and, a few months later, in the summer of 2020, she became more in line with the radical new ideas that Democrats were pushing in the wake of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis and the Black Lives Matter anti-police rallies and riots that shook the nation.

Kamala Harris' alarming claims resurface

Resurfaced footage showed Kamala Harris opposing fracking, saying she would "think about" abolishing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), calling the idea of hiring more police officers "wrongheaded thinking," and considering allowing felons to vote.

The clips first appeared in advertisements for Republican David McCormick's Pennsylvania US Senate campaign. A New York Times assessment of the advertisements' substance states that Harris also supports a "mandatory buyback program" for firearms and believes that private health insurance should be discontinued.

The Harris campaign changed its stance on fracking on Friday, July 26. Fracking is particularly significant to Pennsylvania's economy, which makes it a crucial battleground state in the 2024 election. The Hill was informed by a representative of Harris' reelection campaign that should she win the presidency, she will not attempt to outlaw fracking.

This is in contrary to what Harris stated to CNN during her 2020 presidential nomination. "There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking," Harris said at the time, according to Fox News

Donald Trump told rallygoers how Kamala Harris had opposed fracking

Donald Trump, the Republican contender and former president, revealed to Minnesota rally attendees on Saturday, July 27, how Harris had opposed fracking.

"Oh, that’s going to do well in Pennsylvania, isn’t it?" Trump said, adding "Remember, Pennsylvania, I said it. She wants no fracking. She’s on tape. The beautiful thing about modern technology is when you say something, you’re screwed if it’s bad."

Kamala Harris' campaign official wants to highlight her record as a local prosecutor and state attorney general

According to a Harris campaign aide who spoke to the Times, Harris workers intend to portray Republicans who bring up her previous remarks endorsing left-wing ideologies as making false or exaggerated allegations about Harris' background.

The outlet also reported that the campaign also wants to highlight Harris' accomplishments as a state attorney general and county prosecutor in California in order to portray her as a candidate with strong links to law enforcement.

Ronald Vitiello, Trump's choice to head ICE, was questioned by then-Senator Harris during a confirmation hearing in November 2018 about whether he was "aware of the perception" that ICE and the KKK were similar.

Kamala Harris now supports Joe Biden's budget requests for increased funding for border enforcement

While Kamala Harris' campaign staff told the Times this week that she is no longer against a single-payer health insurance plan, she is in favor of the Biden administration's budget requests for more funding for border enforcement.

She also agreed with Biden's call to outlaw assault weapons, but she is now against any requirement that private gun owners sell their weapons to the federal government.

Kamala Harris is no longer promoting 'Medicare-for-all'

In terms of health care, this indicates that Kamala Harris is no longer advocating for "Medicare-for-all."

"Kamala Harris spent 20 years as a tough-as-nails prosecutor who sent violent criminals to prison," Brian Fallon, a Harris campaign spokesman, told the Times. "Her years spent in law enforcement and her record in the Biden-Harris administration defy Trump’s attempts to define her through lies," Fallon added.

The Trump team brought attention to Harris' 2019 statement that she was "open to conversation" about expanding the size of the Supreme Court on Monday.

However, this week, the Harris campaign issued a statement supporting Biden's proposal for Supreme Court reform, which calls for term limits and ethics standards for justices. Adding more justices to the country's highest court is not part of that proposal.

Republican strategist on Kamala Harris espousing far-left views

"The archive is deep," Republican strategist and advertisement creator Brad Todd, who has worked with McCormick and other campaigns, said to the Times in reference to the film showing Kamala Harris endorsing far-left viewpoints.

He added, "We will run out of time before we run out of video clips of Kamala Harris saying wacky California liberal things. I’m just not sure that the rest of this campaign includes much besides that."

Internet calls out Kamala Harris for trying to distance herself from radical left standpoints

Netizens berated the presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee after she seemingly tried to retract a number of her far-left positions in the week. One X user tweeted, "She will be whoever she can be to win this election. But, afterwards..." Another added, "Too little, too late. Everyone can see thru this sham. #MAGA"

"Kamala is a left-wing zealot, a communist at heart. We will feel Venezuela’s pain if she gets elected," lashed one while another remarked, "She doesn't have enough time to run to the middle like a normal democrat nominee. She has been left of Bernie her whole career. It's too late."

"Reversing a positing now is only to get elected. Harris, if elected, will be the reverse any promise she made," said someone else.
