The incident concluded with the arrest of the suspect, who was handcuffed and taken into police custody.

Ella Emhoff's Secret Service detail's clash with New Yorker leads to arrest

Brooklyn resident Ella Emhoff, 25, the daughter of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, was dining inside a restaurant in Tribeca on Tuesday, July 30, when one of her Secret Service agents, dressed in plain clothes, confronted a man outside.

Video footage captured by a bystander shows this confrontation. The person recording mentioned that the man had ripped the license plate off of a vehicle.

Additional footage later showed the suspect being led away by New York Police officers, handcuffed.

The man was reportedly agitated about the NYPD parking placards that law enforcement agencies use to park without circling for a spot, as reported by TMZ. Their sources indicated that the man unknowingly initiated a confrontation with a Secret Service agent.

During the argument, the man tore off the license plate of a Secret Service vehicle, prompting the police to be called. An eyewitness recounted that Ella and a friend were inside during the altercation but were quickly rushed out and placed in an SUV that promptly drove off.

The suspect was identified as Harry Heymann, 45, and described initially as an "anti-police watcher." He was charged with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

A statement from a Secret Service spokesperson said, "On Tuesday afternoon, an individual approached two United States Secret Service vehicles parked in lower Manhattan and, without provocation, caused damage to the rear license plate area of both."

It continued, "Secret Service Agents quickly detained the individual until local authorities arrived and placed the individual into police custody. At no point was any protectee in danger as a result of this incident."

Per the New York Post, Heymann had no prior arrests, but just weeks before, he had complained about an obscured license plate in the same area of Tribeca. According to his account on X (formerly Twitter), his request to the NYPD was closed with the action deemed “not necessary.”

He expressed his frustration in a July 9 post, sharing photos of the plate and the NYPD’s response, stating, "Apparently driving around in a ghost car is perfectly fine with @NYPD1Pct if you’ve got a fireman’s placard and blue tape on your truck."

Ella Emhoff came to Kamala Harris' defense over JD Vance's 'childless cat ladies' remark

This incident comes as Ella Emhoff has been gaining attention amid her stepmother Kamala Harris' presidential bid. The 25-year-old model and artist recently defended the vice president against JD Vance's disparaging remarks

The Republican vice presidential nominee had singled out Harris and other Democrats, labeling them as "childless cat ladies," during a 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News.

He said Harris was one of the "childless cat ladies" who "want to make the rest of the country miserable too," adding, "If you look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez], the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children."

In response, Ella took to Instagram, posting a screenshot in support of her stepmother’s statement. She added, "How can you be ‘childless’ when you have cutie pie kids like Cole and I?" and tagged Harris’ Instagram handle with the caption, "Say it louder for the people in the back." At the bottom of the image, she added, "I love my three parents."

The Secret Service has recently faced criticism following an attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The former president's right ear was grazed by a bullet fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks, who had managed to climb onto a nearby roof undetected by law enforcement.

In response to the incident, the Secret Service is revising its security protocols and enhancing measures for protectees, as per CNN.

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe testified before congressional committees, stating, "What I saw made me ashamed. As a career law enforcement officer and a twenty-five-year veteran with the Secret Service, I cannot defend why that roof was not better secured."
