WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is trying to end 'lock him up' chants for Donald Trump at her rallies in an attempt to protect Special Counsel Jack Smith’s legal persecution of the former president, NBC News reported.

Harris and Trump are both running for president in November after Democratic nominee Joe Biden decided to withdraw from 2024 the race in July.

Kamala Harris wants to stop ‘lock him up’ chants for Donald Trump at rallies

Kamala Harris' campaign is concerned that the "lock him up" chants could allow Donald Trump’s defense team to delay the January 6 Capitol riots trial.

According to NBC's report, any comments or signs of approval Harris makes could delay or complicate the pending federal criminal charges Trump is facing. That includes the January 6 and 2020 election interference case brought by special counsel Jack Smith.

If Harris wins the November election, Trump’s January 6 case would continue to move toward trial. Moreover, any comments she makes about the trial could be an advantage for Trump’s lawyers to argue in court that her comments interfered with his due process rights.

The comments include any suggestion that locking up Trump would be an explicit goal as the former president himself repeatedly said about Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign.

Harris got defensive when the "lock him up" chants echoed at her rally in Wisconsin. She told her supporters, "We’re gonna let the courts handle that,"

She also said something similar during another rally, "Our job is to beat him in November."

During her first campaign rally in July, Harris said, "I was elected a United States senator. I was elected attorney general of the state of California. And I was a courtroom prosecutor before then."

She added, "And in those roles, I took on perpetrators of all kinds, predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say: I know Donald Trump’s type."

The Harris campaign said in a statement that the Democratic nominee is focused on getting voters to stop Trump in November when NBC News asked why she has shut down "lock him up" chants.

A campaign official said, "Vice President Harris has a simple message: there is one way to stop Donald Trump and his harmful Project 2025 agenda and it’s at the ballot box this November."

Kamala Harris promises to work to end taxes on tips

Kamala Harris promised on Saturday, August 10, that she would work to eliminate taxes on tips paid to restaurant and other service industry employees during a rally in Las Vegas.

She said, "It is my promise to everyone here that, when I am president, we will continue our fight for working families of America. Including to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers."

Trump slammed Harris on social media and wrote, "Just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy. The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for Political Purposes! This was a TRUMP idea - She has no ideas, she can only steal from me."
