ST LOUIS, MISSOURI: The family of Kaylee Gain, the Missouri teen who sustained "traumatic brain injuries" after a physical altercation near her high school earlier this month, has provided an update on her health. Gain's family lawyer Bryan Kaemmerer, said that the victim is now "talking" and able to engage in "limited verbal communications", according to People

“Kaylee also recently began speech therapy, and has gone on a few short walks with the assistance of hospital staff as she is still unable to ambulate on her own,” the statement continued. "However, Kaylee does not have any recollection of the altercation that led to her hospitalization," the statement added.

Kaylee Gain was also reportedly engaged in a fight with another female student

Kaemmerer's statement also confirmed that Gain was involved in an "altercation with a different female student" the day before the fight that landed her in the hospital. He stated that it was "presently unclear" if the latter fight had anything to do with the previous "altercation."

A student has been arrested in connection with the incident

In another statement, the lawyer noted that the Gain family spotted screenshots from a social media page, apparently belonging to the 15-year-old student who was arrested in connection with the fight, though he said he couldn't confirm their "authenticity." Kaemmerer wrote that the posts mentioned joining the "WWE or MMA," and featured the teen calling the fight "calculated."

He argued in his statement that the alleged posts showed “complete disregard for the well-being of a fellow human being" and argued that the teen, whose identity has not been shared due to her age, should "be tried as an adult."

When did the fight take place?

The brawl previously took place on March 8 and was captured on camera, as per the St Louis County Police Department. Authorities said they found Gain “suffering a severe head injury” while video of the fight has since depicted a girl hitting another girl's head into the ground.

Kaylee Gain's family has raised over $440,000

Following the March 8 hospitalization, the teen's family has raised over $440,000 with the help of GoFundMe campaigns. Her mother, April, shared an update on her daughter's condition most recently on March 22, sharing on one of the GoFundMe pages that the teen was "stable, breathing on her own, and was moved out of the ICU."

"I wanted to come on here to first and foremost and thank everyone for the generosity, love & support u have shown for Kaylee and our family," the mother wrote, adding "To everyone that has donated and also sent there [sic] thoughts, love and prayers we wanted to thank you from the bottom of our hearts the overwhelming amount of support for Kaylee and our family has been amazing."

"She still has an incredibly long journey ahead of her but she is strong. We will update Kaylee's gofundme's when we can as changes continue to happen," she added. "Thank you again to everybody for your support we are so grateful," she continued.
