WASHINGTON, DC: Michael Whatley, the chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), seemed to dodge questions about potential election tampering in 2020 in favor of emphasizing the need to ensure election integrity this year, according to The Hill.

In an interview with Whatley, Chris Stirewalt, the anchor of NewsNation's 'The Hill Sunday', cited articles from March claiming that the RNC was asking possible rehires if the 2020 election was rigged.

Whatley said about the reports, "Look, the only litmus test I have is, ‘Do you support President Trump and the rest of our Republican nominees?’ and, ‘Will you work 24/7 for the next seven months to make sure that we win this election cycle?'"

Whatley was then questioned by Stirewalt whether the 2020 election was rigged. He replied, "I think there were irregularities. I think there were issues that we saw across the country. We need to have election integrity. This is about making sure that we have the rules of the road in place in 2024."

He added, "So that we do not have drop boxes, for example, that we have voter ID, for example, that absentee ballots have to have a witness signature, have to have a signature by the voter."

Moreover, Whatley asserted that the 'vast majority' of Americans approve of these election safety measures.

When Stirewalt persisted and inquired if the 2020 election results were 'rigged' or 'accurately counted', Whatley responded by pointing to his vote for the outgoing president.

Whatley answered, "Look, I was a member of the Electoral College. I proudly cast my vote for Donald Trump, the Electoral College number came back. Joe Biden is the president and we are working all day, every day now to make sure that we’re going to win this election in 2024."

Notably, since taking office, Whatley has given election integrity a lot of attention.

According to the committee, they will make sure they are 'going to be in the room' when the early ballots are cast and counted in November, according to a recent interview with radio talk show host John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM's 'Cats Roundtable'.

Internet criticizes Michael Whatley as he dodges question if 2020 election was stolen

Several people on the internet slammed Michael Whatley as he seemed to dodge questions about potential election tampering in 2020 in favor of emphasizing the need to ensure election integrity this year.

A user wrote on X, "You would have to be either living under a rock or be a liar to not know the 2020 election was stolen!" while one added, "@GOP continue to lie to their voters because that’s the only thing they do- they need to keep their base angry and enraged. Meanwhile, in reality, no proof of Republicans claims."

A person also stated, "Who can blame him, we all know that if he says what he really thinks he could potentially go to jail", while one mentioned, "Side stepping and jaywalking when confronted with facts!"

A user also added, "Not a spine between any of them. They richly deserve what's coming", whereas one stated, "This is typical @GOP

shenanigans about to begin."
