MEMPHIS, MISSISSIPPI: The lifeless body of the missing 30-year-old woman bearing a gunshot wound, was discovered along Interstate 22 in Mississippi

Notably, Kelly Sistrunk was last seen on January 28, 2024, and a City Watch alert was issued by MPD six days later when she went missing. 

Further details about the discovery of the missing woman have come to light during the investigation as per Crimeonline.

What did police report?

As reported by Timesnewnow, officials confirmed on Sunday the tragic discovery of the deceased mother of a 2-year-old child, Kelly Sistrunk who had been missing

Deputies responded to a wooded area near Holly Springs around 9 am, where a body was found, later identified as Sistrunk.

This comes after Sistrunk's family notified Marshall County authorities after they detected her cellphone signaling in the area, approximately 55 miles southeast of Memphis.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fully clothed woman suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities are awaiting an autopsy report to ascertain the official cause of death.

What did Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson reveal?

Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson revealed that his department is treating the death as a homicide and is collaborating closely with MPD. 

However, he did not disclose further details about the circumstances that led deputies to respond to the scene. 

The family of Sistrunk contacted Marshall County authorities on Sunday morning after discovering that her cellphone was indicating her presence in the area.

According to MPD, the woman's mother informed investigators that she last saw her daughter sitting inside her vehicle in the driveway of their home on West Falls Road in Whitehaven just before midnight, without specifying the date. 

Approximately 30 minutes later, when the mother checked on her, her daughter was missing, although the vehicle remained. 

Consequently, MPD initiated a 'missing and endangered person' investigation, and the inquiry into the incident was ongoing.
