MARION COUNTY, FLORIDA: A Florida woman stole a sheriff's deputy's SUV car and led authorities on a high-speed chase before dying in a wrong-way crash that killed two others, according to Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a suspicious incident on February 1 at the Forest Plaza in Silver Springs.

Who were the victims?

Officials were told a woman, who was identified as 33-year-old Kendra Boone, was trying to take an elderly woman's keys, but was unsuccessful and kept trying to gain access to the vehicle.

"This moron stole a police vehicle and killed two human beings,” Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods told reporters at a press conference.

As per the video by NY Post, the sheriff said that around 2 pm, Deputy Chris Witte arrived in his patrol SUV and told Boone to go to the back of his car as he momentarily stepped out. Instead, according to bodycam footage, Boone leaped through the open passenger window of the deputy's running car and slid behind the wheel in a matter of seconds.

The deputy's car had the key in the ignition. She started to drive off, and Witte called for her to stop. In the startling video, she accelerates out of the shopping center parking lot as he follows and opens the driver's door in an attempt to get her out.

"She fled in the stolen sheriff vehicle eastbound on East Highway 40 for several miles as more deputies arrived and chased after her," Woods said.

She was traveling “well over 100 miles per hour” and “driving erratically” as she tried to evade deputies, the sheriff noted.

During the pursuit, Boone tried to pass a semi-truck on the highway by moving onto the right shoulder. She lost control and crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic when she merged back into the road. According to Woods, she struck a black pickup truck squarely in the head.

Boone and two others dead in collision

Boone and the three occupants of the pickup were unresponsive when deputies reached the wreck.

Boone and two of the truck occupants, identified as the 73-year-old male driver and a 72-year-old female passenger from Waterloo, South Carolina, were pronounced dead on the scene. The third person was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Woods said he and his deputies felt “sheer panic” when they learned that a patrol car had been stolen.

He said, "We know what’s in the vehicle. There’s a long rifle in there, adding, the moment she did that, she was a threat to human life, a threat for merely getting in that car. Think about that for a minute. What do citizens think when they see blue lights coming down the road? They think it’s a good person, not an a**hole like this.”

"If this person would have been in jail, I wouldn’t have two dead innocent people," he added. "Her, I don’t give a crap about.”
