BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT: The 51-year-old Kevin Bard has received his sentence for the murder of his longtime girlfriend Catherine Streeto-Michaud, whom he fatally stabbed.
After committing the crime, he calmly sat on her couch and made phone calls to inform others of his actions while awaiting the arrival of the police as per Law&Crime.
It is worth noting that, Bard had previously faced charges and convictions for domestic violence on multiple occasions before the fatal altercation, leading to a restraining order preventing him from being near Streeto-Michaud at the time of her death.
Additional details regarding his sentencing have emerged during the court appearance.
What happened in the courtroom?
In a recent court hearing, Superior Court Judge Christopher A Pelosi ordered the accused, Kevin Bard, to serve a 70-year sentence in a state correctional facility for the 2020 killing of 58-year-old Catherine Streeto-Michaud.
In December 2023, a jury in New Britain convicted Bard on charges including murder, three violations of a protective order, and one violation of a standing criminal protective order.
Pelosi imposed a 50-year sentence for the murder charge, along with 10 years each for the protective order violations and the criminal order violation, to be served consecutively.
Prosecutors presented evidence against Kevin Bard
According to a news release from the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office, trial prosecutors presented evidence that after killing Streeto-Michaud, Bard phoned several family members and friends, confessing to the murder at her residence.
The state’s attorney’s office stated, “State’s Attorney Watson extends his sincerest condolences to Ms. Streeto-Michaud’s family and friends for the loss of their beloved, whom they described as a kind and vibrant woman."
“This was a senseless and horrific crime and we are grateful for the ability to seek justice on behalf of Ms. Streeto-Michaud and her family, as well as the people of the State of Connecticut, who have too often witnessed the deadly consequences of domestic violence”
What happened to Catherine Streeto-Michaud?
Authorities were initially alerted to the attack when one of Bard’s acquaintances dialed 911, informing them that Bard had just phoned him, confessing to killing Streeto-Michaud.
Upon arriving at Streeto-Michaud’s residence on Vance Drive, officers discovered Bard seated on her living room couch, engaged in a phone conversation.
Bristol Police Det Lt Kevin Morrell disclosed to the Courant in 2020, “He was making other phone calls, letting other people know what he had done.”
Additionally, authorities disclosed that Streeto-Michaud was found in her bedroom with a single stab wound, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The apprehending officers further noted that Bard displayed no emotion or remorse following the deadly assault, and they highlighted his apparent state of intoxication.
