COLUMBUS, OHIO: A 44-year-old mother, Laquandra Williams from East Columbus was arrested this week for allegedly shooting and killing her son after attempting to stab him first.

On February 19, at 1:45 p.m. Columbus Division of Police officers responded to a shooting call on the 2800 block of Drew Heights Place and found Jahaad Hughes unresponsive on the ground when they arrived, per reports.

What happened to Juhaad Hughes? 

A Columbus woman is facing charges in the murder of her son after a domestic dispute escalated and turned fatal on Monday, February 19 afternoon at an apartment complex on the city's Southeast Side in Fairfield County.

44-years-old Laquandra Williams is currently charged with murder in the shooting death of her son, Hughes who resided in Reynoldsburg's Briarcliff neighborhood, according to a release from the Columbus police Homicide Unit.

In the Tussing Place apartment complex, which is situated off of Tussing Road in a part of the city in Fairfield County, there was a complaint of a shooting at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday, according to a probable cause affidavit from Columbus police.

Investigators were informed by witnesses at the scene that Hughes and Williams had gotten into a domestic fight inside their home and that at one time Williams took out a knife and tried to stab Hughes.

Williams was able to wrestle the knife away from Williams during the altercation. At that point, Williams allegedly said "I'm going to show you something," then went out to her car where witnesses said they knew she kept a handgun.

Hughes tried to exit the house a few minutes later. According to the complaint, Williams exited her car and shot Hughes at close range as he was leaving with luggage in his hands. Three individuals observed Williams shooting Hughes.

Medical investigators transported Hughes in critical condition to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he died from his injuries at 3:03 p.m., detectives said.

Officers immediately took Williams into custody. During an interview at Columbus police headquarters, Williams admitted to shooting her son, the affidavit states.

She is being held in the Fairfield County jail. She will face murder charges in Fairfield County. The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
