Lara Trump's new tribute song titled 'Hero' leaves internet unimpressed
WASHINGTON, DC: Lara Trump, the RNC co-chair and daughter-in-law of former president Donald Trump, on August 23 released a duet, a tribute song to firefighters titled 'Hero.'
While the intention behind the song appears to be sincere, the execution has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many criticizing her vocal performance.
Lara Trump's duet 'Hero' marred with autotune
The ballad begins with the voice of Madeline Jaymes, an artist with fewer than 1,500 followers, who describes herself as a “sickly Victorian child” in her Instagram bio.
Jaymes delivers a soft and emotional performance, hitting high notes over a delicate piano melody as re-enactments of firefighters saving a little girl from a fire play on the screen.
About a minute and 20 seconds into the song, Trump’s vocals, heavily altered by autotune, take over, shifting the tone of the song dramatically.
“Without your bravery, we’re all out of luck/ No, this can’t be denied /You got to be special/ It takes a lot to put you last and everybody first /With your heart they could make gold," the lyrics state.

Internet criticises Lara Trump for her new video, compares her to 'a dying mule'
However, many listeners found her performance to be distracting and struggled to hold a note.
One clip of Lara Trump’s performance began gaining traction on X (formerly Twitter) on Labor Day.
“Every note is a violation of the Geneva Convention,” one user reacted. Another commented, “My dogs were rough-housing until I turned up the volume to hear the voice. They stopped and howled. This is some tone-deaf shit.”

The criticism continued with a user writing, "Having been a band manager, promoter, and DJ, l can categorically say that this is truly dreadful." Another person added, "Holy autotune. And it's STILL awful."

The harsh reactions didn’t stop there. “When American Horror Story meets American Idol,” one person remarked. Another shared, “I can hear extreme autotune reverb, and she still sounds like a dying mule.”

Lara Trump is not new to criticism over singing
This isn’t the first time Lara Trump’s singing has caused a stir online. Last October, a video of her singing a cover of Tom Petty’s 'I Won’t Back Down' during an appearance on Sky News Australia went viral.

The performance was widely panned and someone even altered the video to exaggerate the flaws in her singing. The viral clip received so much attention that it was fact-checked by Associated Press.
Interestingly, this cover isn’t the only instance where the Trump family has used 'I Won’t Back Down' as part of the MAGA movement.
The Petty estate expressed their displeasure in 2020 when the song was used at Trump rallies, further fueling the controversy, reports Rolling Stone.
