About two weeks later, his ex-wife posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, reflecting on the lasting impact he had on her life and others who knew him. Sheets, who became widely recognized for his long-running role on the show, died at the age of 67. Authorities have described his death as an apparent self-inflicted incident.
Darrell Sheets’ ex-wife speaks out after his death
Following the passing of Sheets, his ex-wife Kimber Wuerfel opened up about her grief and the memories they shared. “I haven’t had the words until now,” she began in the caption on Thursday, April 30. “Thank you for all the love, prayers, and condolences, it has meant more than I can say.”
Wuerfel went on to honor Sheets’ legacy, adding, “Darrell gave us so many moments of laughter, connection, and life.” She also shared a message about grief and remembrance, writing, “May the memories you hold of him stay close to your heart, as mine will stay with me forever.”
Wuerfel concluded by noting that plans for a memorial service would be shared at a later time, adding, “From our family to yours, thank you.” Alongside her message, she shared a photo of the two smiling together outdoors. In the image, Sheets has his arm wrapped around her as they posed in front of a relaxed bar setting.
Darrell Sheets’ death and investigation
Sheets was found dead at his home in Arizona in what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident took place around 2 AM on April 22. According to the Lake Havasu City Police Department, officers responded to “a reported deceased individual,” where he was pronounced dead.
Officials confirmed the case is still under investigation and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward. Sgt Kyle Ridgway also stated that investigators are examining cyberbullying claims raised by Rene Nezhoda.
In an April 22 Instagram post, Nezhoda alleged that someone had been “really, really tormenting(Sheets) lately” and “cyberbullying” him. Following the news, A&E shared a statement: “We are saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell ‘The Gambler’ Sheets. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
