DES MOINES, IOWA: Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has stated his support for limiting the access to abortion drug mifepristone in the country.

At the CNN Town Hall on December 13 in Iowa, Ramaswamy said that the SCOTUS should rule against the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of the abortion pill.

Moderator Abby Philip asked whether he believes the Supreme Court should limit the abortion medication distribution nationwide. Ramaswamy said, "I believe that the Supreme Court should put the FDA back in its place."

When asked to clarify whether the drug would be banned nationwide if the SCOTUS rules in favor of the anti-abortion activists' demand, the White House official stated, "I believe it will result in mifepristone being taken off the market until they go through the process that's ordained for every other drug that doesn't go through emergency approval."

On December 13, the Supreme Court announced its decision to review a lower court ruling that could potentially restrict access to mifepristone, the nation's most widely used abortion pill.

Vivek Ramaswamy believes FDA exceeded its statutory authority in approving the abortion drug

The biotech entrepreneur agreed that the FDA had exceeded its statutory authority when it first approved the drug in 2000. "It's my opinion… that the FDA exceeded its statutory authority in using an emergency approval to approve something that doesn't fit Congress' criteria for what actually counts as an emergency approval," Ramaswamy said.

"The people who we elect to run the government, they're not even the ones who run the government right now. It's the bureaucrats in those three-letter agencies that are pulling the strings today," said the White House hopeful, reiterating that the drug should be taken off the market until it undergoes the standard approval process, similar to other drugs without emergency approval.

According to The Texas Tribune in April, Texas District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk first imposed a nationwide ban on mifepristone, declaring that the FDA had improperly approved the drug 23 years ago.

The availability of the drug was made easily accessible in 2016 when it allowed patients to obtain the pill through telemedicine appointments.

According to the FDA, mifepristone, when used with another medicine called misoprostol, is used to terminate pregnancies in the first ten weeks of the gestation period.

Internet says Vivek Ramaswamy 'hates women'

Ramaswamy is facing online backlash for declaring his support for limiting access to abortion pills in a post-Roe v Wade US. Some users pointed out the irony in his opinions and his pharmaceutics.

One user said, "Dammit! Just leave women alone! You don't own us!"

Another user remarked, "Another republican that hates women."

"Ramaswamy is nothing but a loser, no one has the right to make a decision about another person body," stated a third user.

A fourth reaction read, "Isn't he supposed to be some kind of biotechnology executive? Yikes!"

"Clear evidence that Ramaswamy makes no money from mifepristone," said one user.

Another added, "Take us back to the late 60's."

"He continues to make everybody hate him," said another user.

One user said, "Because he believes politicians and the courts should dictate women’s health care."
